This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
What are your favorite uncommon or silly Utena couples? Do you ship any for no reason or for sheer hotness?
Mine are Kozue/Tatsuya, Ruka/Touga, and Kozue/Saionji. Hell, I could ship Kozue with the entire universe.
Offline
Nanami/Saionji. It would never work, but hooo boy it would be like someone shot off fireworks inside the house.
Offline
Juri/Wakaba
Offline
There are times when I feel that Nanami and Shiori just completely deserve each other.

I'm with you, Riri-kins! I could ship Kozue with the universe.
Probably my favorite crack pairings would be Ruka/Touga and Ruka/Kozue, the latter one because of a drabble or two I found on livejournal way back when. And, well, Ruka and Touga I'd (mostly, haha) just like to see trying to manipulate each other. I like the idea of Kozue/Shiori, too; I feel like they'd both have a lot of smug disdain for each other.
Offline
Chu-chu/Saionji.
I don't need to see fanart or have anyone write a story; just the idea is enough.
Offline
Akio/nobody.
Offline
Akio would probably cease to exist out of sheer paradox if he stopped getting off. Therefore, Akio/nobody = Akio's porn and hand lotion extravaganza. Akiosterbation.

Masturbation is sex with someone you love.
Akio pretty much only loves himself. So this makes sense.

I'd say Wakaba/Anthy, except that I could seriously see it happen. I suppose my favourite crack pairing would be a self inserted Ikuhara and Chu Chu. I think they could really make it work.
Offline
Yeah, I'd go with Saionji/Kanae.
I'm pretty sure they never meet, but I think they're each looking for what the other one is trying to be. And that sets them up to be a fascinating failure.

Juri/Wakaba. This time, Juri's attraction to the innocent girl-next-door type actually lands on a legitimate target, and pays off. It's not for nothing that she's the one driving the Wakaba jeep in the movie.

Oh wow, I didn't notice that either!
Uncanny ships.....
Aside from what Yasha mentioned Nanami/Saionji .....I think I'd actually like Kozue and Nanami. Team #terrible

There's one word to describe what would happen: apocalyptic.

You must hate that boy.
It's hard for me to see Tatsuya with anyone but Wakaba, but that's not exactly a crack pairing, is it? If I had to choose someone other than Wakaba, I suppose it'd be Keiko. They share a capacity for devotion that they would both appreciate in each other. The relationship might pull Keiko away from Nanami and from climbing the social ladder generally, which would be good for her, and it might give Tatsuya the opportunity to stop putting women on pedestals, which would be good for him. If they soften each other a little, they'd be a cute couple.

I am in love the Ruka and Touga pairing for the manipulation of each other in addition to the hot sexing...also they seem like the type that can play rough and tough without alot of unnecessary BS and drama, away from Ohtori.
Ms.Ohtori and Mikage also Mikage and Kanae...I have no idea how it would work.
Anthy and Nanami, Anthy and Kanae, Anthy.

Nanami/Miki!
They're both fairly innocent characters with dark sides who idealize their siblings to an unhealthy extent.

I ship Anthy/Wakaba! Post-Ohtori styled. They have more in common than just being the friends of Utena. I even wrote a huge 12 chapters long story about them after Ohtori.

I don't know, I could see giving them a shot. The Mike's Hard and I submit that:
- Episode 27: Nanami no Tamago/Nanami's Egg: Nanami beat the snot out of Saionji with a frying pan. Now, granted, what's he going to do in retaliation to a young girl? But I say that few would dare, and if Saionji can take that beating, he can take the emotional beating of love (or some jazz.)
- Nanami calls him Kyouichi, or she did at least once (honestly, at this point, I can't remember.) And the connotation can be either good or bad or mean nothing at all, but who else would or does in the series? Obviously difference means love.
- Maybe it's because Saionji is male, or maybe it's because he's been around for so long and Nanami is just used to seeing him, but who else would be so close to Touga without Nanami flipping her lid? Perhaps she's comfortable around him. Maybe enough to possibly be herself. Maybe they can share Touga-complexes. Maybe they can form a support group. Maybe they can grow up, move away, Saionji will find a profession in which he feels very successful and can afford Nanami those splendid gowns, or maybe she won't need them any more? (Takes a deep breath.) Or, someone could argue that this lack of posturing is because it's just Saionji, after all, but I choose to gleefully run with this.
- P.S., I searched Google images to try to find a picture from the egg episode, and instead I found this fan-art on our forum (credit to Android Eyes.)
Granted, this post has just been for my love of crack, but now... I kind of sort of want it. They should invent a fist-shaking emote (rather than the one of Saionji whacking off ) just for you, Yasha.

Honestly...I think Nanami's disdain for Saionji comes down to familiarity breeding contempt...and her also picking up on the contempt that Touga has for the guy. But ymv.
Another crack pairing for me... mmm, how does Touga/Tatsuya strike you?
satyreyes= It's hard for me to see Tatsuya with anyone but Wakaba, but that's not exactly a crack pairing, is it? If I had to choose someone other than Wakaba, I suppose it'd be Keiko.
I've actually thought this myself, and not in a crack kind of way. I think that they'd compliment each other beautifully and that of all the cast of SKU, they'd have the closest anyone could come to a healthy relationship.

Shiori/Saionji because it would be a relationship of nothing but . And Juri somewhere in a dark corner . Misery loves company.
And I approve of Juri/Wakaba because Wakaba might be an innocent girl, but she's an innocent girl who isn't going to put up with Juri's stoic crap. Juri goes off to be stoic and mysterious and Wakaba walks up and says, "What the hell is wrong with you?"
And my ultimate crack pairing is Mrs Ohtori/Kozue because just...yes. Just... let it play around in your head for a while and it totally works.

Yasha just posted something on this on the tumblr and it made me remember that the times when I am more emotionally vulnerable and watch Adolescence Apocalypse, I have gotten weepy eyed at that exact scene when Wakaba saves Anthy and Utena from the tunnel. It's partly the music playing at that point too, but all the way until Wakaba takes the exit back to Ohtori is such a powerful scene for me.

AW YUS Saionji/Nanami, my dearest crack pairing. They're either going to wind up perfect for each other or turn into "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" but either way it would be fucking AMAZING. They both want to play the part of prince and princess so badly, but the real world(and Touga specifically) keeps crushing them. They could be that for each other. They both have very rigid gender roles that would agree pretty well with each other, the bizarre occasional ability to know what's really going on, a high sense of propriety, and...frankly, Saionji needs someone who won't let him run roughshod all over them. Yes, they will fight. Probably a lot. It'll be like your in a stereotypical Italian household. But honestly, ANY pairing with EITHER or them is going to have a lot of conflict--short of both of them getting a shit-ton of therapy. They yell, fight, and then have crazy makeup sex.

It also helps that Nanami's so protective of him in that episode where they study with Utena and Anthy.
