What I meant was that if you have 800x600 resolution and want to use a wallpaper that's 1024x768 (this seemed to be the standard screen resolution for a while), then you won't have any distortions with scaling because both sizes have the same aspect ratio. Of course, scaling (or more like cropping) a wide-screen wallpaper wouldn't get that good results. Does that make sense?
I know what you mean, but it still doesn't always look right. I'm a finicky graphics-person. That's all I'm saying here.

My computer is 1680x1050 as of current.
I can't think of any additions I'd be hot on just yet, but I'll keep my head open for such.
Super-dance for wallpapers!

1920 x 1200 (Gio, I will love you forever if you make walllpaper for bigger screens. I still can't believe 800x600 are still being made.)
And yes! Multimedia!

1440 × 900.
there are so many screenresolutions, wow.
I usually go for a large image that fits my screen and center it, or stretch it.
Right now I'm making my own utena wallpaper

1280 x 800
Last time I used an 800x600 screen was sometime in the mid-90s. I agree with the others that it's more useful to provide high-res backgrounds in different aspect ratios... as long as the ratio is right it's easy enough to scale down.

1280x800, though I can also deal with somewhat larger wallpapers, so I'm okay if the standard goes a bit bigger than that.

I avoid using 800x600 outside of playing games because some fonts look weird at that resolution, the lowest I use is 1024x768.
The computer I am on now is set to widescreen 1280x720
