This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

UPS updated the tracking & its scheduled delivery date is the 9th(this Friday), hopefully there won't be a weather delay(I hate winter!) or else I'll have to wait until Monday. UPS usually always delivers very late to my house but I'd work on them right away & expect to start uploading the first disc on Saturday.

The DVDs will be DVD9 so I highly recommend buying some Double Layer DVDs if you haven't yet. Memorex DL work great for me & Buy.com sell 50 pack for $35(free shipping) which is a great deal.

Episode 9 starts and the title card reads "Next Episode" emot-rolleyes, talk about bad subs. If anyone knows of more sub errors please tell me so I can correct them.

According to BabelFish, Ikuni is working on the menu for the HD version of Utena... so we are indeed, getting an HD release, praise End of the World!

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

I didn't get it on Friday because UPS screwed me over. It went "Out for delivery" today, my family & I have been at our house all day looking for him and when I check the tracking at around 7:00 PM it says "THE RECEIVER WAS UNAVAILABLE TO SIGN ON THE 1ST DELIVERY ATTEMPT.". Which is a complete lie. This is actually te 2nd time its happened but I let it slide the first time, now I'm just pissed. If he had actually tried he would've left a yellow slip on my door which he didn't, my guess is he called it quits for the day because it was so late(UPS always delivers very late to my house).
Other people have this same problem with UPS, so while I love that they are fast & seem to take decent care of packages, their service is lacking. They don't deliver regular ground shipping on the weekend so I should get it on Monday for sure, if they don't I'm calling them up to scream like a fanboy. emot-tongue

Now for some good news, someone is working with me on getting the old fansub sub files. We have the first 25 episode so far with a few episodes that aren't timed that he is working on. So the 2nd set won't have the fansub version unless someone knows where we can get them with the times.
I'll be adding both the fansub & R1 subs. I'm pretty much all done with the editing and just need the R2J DVDs so I can time & then apply them.

The fansub version will have styles/color applied, the translation is much more literal(its got honorifics for example). Dialog will be yellow, songs will be white, etc.

I'm gonna keep the R1 subs simple, just white subs, because some people prefer simple. Having two very different versions of the subs gives a wide variety to peoples taste on sub viewing.

While I wait for UPS I made a sample, I applied the fansub version to the CPM video to get a feeling how the fansub version will look.

Throwing in my words of support, flimsy though they may be. I will be so incredibly grateful if you finish this project, you won't be able to believe it. I'd even be willing to lend a bit of PayPal support toward the price of those DVDs (that must have hurt!) once I'm in a financial position to do so. I applaud the work you've done so far, and wish you major luck on continuing it. etc-love

Someone helped donate money for set 1, otherwise this probably wouldn't have been possible so I really need to thank him when I start uploading the discs. Now for the 2nd set that comes out in March, there's no way I could afford it all by myself so I'd either need some Paypal donations or someone that bought them to hook me up with the DVD9's(this would be preferred).

[Update]: UPS finally delivered my package this morning. A completely beautiful box set.
I'm almost done timing the fansub subs and then I can start timing the R1 subs to disc 1.

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

I'm all done with the first disc. Plan of colored subs dropped because with the current programs for DVD subbing you lose the antialias adjustment when you choose the option to use multiple colors.

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

I just got my CD set.  I was going to stop there since I already have CPM's release of the entire series, but seeing that there are material differences on these new DVDs is really tempting me toward the DVD sets as well.  D=  Oh if money were no object!

But so what's this I hear about an HD release?  They're gonna do the whole series on DVDs, remastered and all that good stuff, then again HD?  Also, HD=BlueRay now?  If such be the case maybe I should wait for that rather than buy this set.  Maybe by then I'll be rich.  emot-tongue

I upload a disc when its done, I'm uploading disc 2 right now which is almost done. I plan to start timing the subs for disc 3 tonight.

Not sure when I'll be done with set 1, maybe a week? It all depends.

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

I ran into a problem timing disc 3, I timed it but for some odd reason when I add them to the DVD they are off. Someone is helping me so hopefully this problem will be fixed.
For now I'm skipping disk 3 and moving onto disc 4.

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

This is something I just was looking into the other day actually. Please forgive the (probably) stupid questions - I just want to make sure I have stuff right before I dish out 3-7 hundred dollars.

This set is in two relases. I found them on yesasia.com - which I presume is as legitimate a website as anywhere else (please poke me if that's wrong....)

It's Utena. But remastered. So you have better pictures (like Gio's!!~!), and some of the awkward sound moments have been filled in. A few of the graphics have been changed - but very few. More or less. Is that the gist of i?

It's a region two DVD. Which means i'm hosed - as a citizen of the US. I can either watch it on my pc (my computer lets me change reagions up to like....4 times or something. I have few changes left. Enough to change it to region two on last time, at the very least), or I can keep it in a box looking pretty. Alternately, I can go out and order a dvd player from japan, adding an extra 100 or so dollars to the price tag. I can watch it on my japanese DVD player, on my normal US (but japanese made) HDTV, and say yay. And be happy.

It has no subtitles. Unless I download the (kindly created and offered) versions here. The official DVD though, has no subtitles though. Which is either good for practicing my japanese, or annoying for my tv enjoyment..... depending on my mood that night. Correct?

This is all I know. I don't know the difference between the first/second set, and would appreciate it if someone could help me out. I've been thinking about grabbing this if only as a tool to work on my Japanese (Utena w/o subtitles would be a good way to practice, if you already know a good bit...... just find the words you don't, memorize them, and carry on).  But yeah.

Are my impressions of the set right? Anything important I'm missing? I want to make sure I've got it all down right before I spend/waste 300 dollars.....

Re: Utena: Remastered Release in the works?

Okay, Valeli, here we go!

1. YesAsia is a legitimate site.  You could also get it from CDJapan.

2. It's remastered, some scenes have been reanimated from what I understand.  Sound effects have finally been added.  Oh, and it comes with the musical.

3. Download VLC player for your computer.  You can play any region using that program without there being problems--although you may have to find a way to keep your normal DVD program from autostarting (which is easy enough to do.)  Conversely, you can also look up your current DVD player at this site to see if there is an easy way to turn it region free.  In most cases, it's simply finding the right combination of buttons on the remote.

4. Correct, no subtitles.

5. Differences between the sets: Set 1 contains all of the episodes through the Black Rose arc, I believe.  I'm too lazy to grab my set to find out. ^_-  Set 2 contains the Apocalypse arc, the movie, and the musical.  There is also a CD set that contains all of the OSTs remastered (including the musical), as well as a bonus CD.

Does that answer all of your questions?  I can't wait for my second set to arrive.  Maybe I'll luck out this time and be home when it's delivered so I don't have to go to the post office yet again.  I keep getting it shipped EMS given it's such an expensive item.

As I said its "on a private torrent site and you'd have to PM me to get it since it might not be safe to openly advertise such a site".
Its absolutely free with no ads or anything, the only thing required is that you keep a decent ratio.
