This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
So I don't get to have any fun just because I'm only sixteen?

Uhm.. so.. Let's see. Does anyone have some more organized ideas about the duels? This is kind of a toughie..
Well, if it was using images or something, a judge (especially the poptart bride) would be good, but that might cause a lot of conflict and arguing. So, I like the dice rolling idea. It makes things more random and interesting. I just wonder how it would be implemented. And would the poptart bride step in to help her favoured duelist, too, or maybe not? And would it be something else combined with the dice-rolling, like images, RP, etc.?
Just trying to think of some ideas. Good luck.

Good Luck is right!! c'mon EOP think!........
even if it were worked out as an RP.....the bride would have to come in in favor of the person. i think perhaps it could go like an RP and they can use pictoral tactics, the more creative fighter, or whoever our lovely bride *points to razara* chooses to give the poptart of dios to will be declaired the winner of the duel..........uh..anyone want to work on that?

I can think of far more interesting things to do with those poptart go-sticks-- *remembers the 15 gets you 20 rules as well*
We could always go with the more open approach to the poptart duels and whoever the Poptart Bride and Ends of the Poptart considers best suited will ultimately win anyway regardless of skill.

This is true. That's how it was in the series. But, then no one would ever get a fair chance to win. Although, a little bit of help from the poptart bride might be a good idea, but maybe not to the point where she would make them win the entire duel.

I think that we should definitely limit the Pop-tart Bride's say in the duel, since I don't want this to turn into a favorite contest.

Damnit, people, this is the internet. It's not fair that I get left out of flirting just because of my age. You're not going to be sent off to prison, nor will you be accused of being a pedophile just by flirting with text.
There is no age on the internet.

If I pull a sword from your bosom, can I grope you in the process?
Flirty enough for ya'?

When I ran a dueling game for my anime club, I made sure all our duels were judgeable either objectively (e.g. whoever screws up the line "mokushi kushimo shimoku kumoshi moshiku shikumo" first loses) or democratically (e.g. we vote on who came up with the better Ohtori Student Council President stump speech). It worked out really well that way. We used a different game every week to keep the duels fresh and the required skill set unpredictable; that'd be one option here too. Just a thought.
And of course, I want to be a Pop-Tart Duelist! Or if we're hard up for a game idea, I can be End of the World and reuse some of my old ones.
I'm the wrong gender to flirt with Razara, but I will point out with tongue firmly in cheek that the question of how pedophilia bears on this board bears discussing. We have a whole thread about sleeping with Utena characters, for heaven's sake And yet no one here is a pedophile in the usual sense, at least as far as I know. What's up with that? (Let's leave that a rhetorical question here so as not to hijack a very promising thread!)

the position has been taken for ends of the poptart already. you can be the poptart Dios!

Nah, being Dios is being like the guy who waits on Regis's speed-dial in case the contestant decides to phone-a-friend. I'll be a duelist!

I'd like to be a pop tart duelist, if that's okay...
I like satyr's idea about a set of rotating contests, tho. Perhaps we set it up so that our poptartAkio and poptart Rosebride will always be on the panel of judges, but the current victor will be a third rotating judge who also has the chance to select the next challange? Perhaps the victor could have the right of making an open challange, one to all the poptart duellists, in which the victor would not be able to participate, and would instead, help select a winner. Or the option of issuing private challanges to one other duellist. Those sorts of duels would then be judged only by the PoptartAkio and the Poptart Rosebride to determine a worthy champion. Maybe there could be a sort of poptart Ruka as a floating judge when the champion wishes to compete in his own trial, or in the case of a one on one duel.
..Just a thought...

I could be a poptart Ruka... you know, the knowing dickhead?

XD everyone is getting into this! i love it! *handing out rosetart rings like crazy*
ok everyone has to hop in the car too so they can realize their true destiny and blah blah blah........

I like satyr's idea too. A rotation of different kinds of games sounds fun, with either judges or dice-rolling or something. Maybe satyr could be the student council poptart president.
And I'll probably decide later if I want to be a poptart duelist. Maybe a black poptart duelist, then.

But I know things! You won't find me in the driver's seat of the car, but I know more than I let on.

My incredible attraction to you must then mean I am poptart Shiori. I am depressed by this.
Unless Razara wants to moonlight as PoptartJuri!

But I like Razara, I don't want to bully her too badly.

Yes, but think of the threesome fanfic potential.
Offline
Maybe we shouldnt over think the other characters.
the only thing that matters is the rules of how it will work.

Well, like I said, I like the idea of a rotating series of challanges. I wouldn't want to particpate if it were just rp challanges, but I'd definitly participate things like macros, or maybe art challanges. I also think that a rotating judge would definitly help keep things fair.

PROPOSAL!!! RULES SUPERSTRUCTURE
RULE 0. For the first duel, End makes the rules. If the duel does not include rules for determining a winner, the winner is chosen collaboratively by End, the Bride, and a special celebrity guest judge (Gio or Yasha). This rule is deleted at the conclusion of the first duel.
RULE 1. In duels beyond the first, the rules are set by the loser of the previous duel. (If the loser doesn't feel like making up a game, s/he can ask End to do it.) If the duel does not include rules for determining a winner, the judges are End, the Bride, and the previous loser.
RULE 2. Any duelist can issue a challenge to the current Champion Duelist, but there are no insta-rematches unless your real-life name is Saionji or Utena. This helps keep the participant pool fresh and avoids confusion about who would judge a rematch. The Champion Duelist can neither refuse nor issue challenges.
RULE 3. End settles all rules disputes that may arise, unless the current duel contains rules for resolving duel-internal rules disputes.
RULE 4. SPECIAL BONUS POWER OF WORLD REVOLUTION!!! The winner of a duel may add or revise a rule in this Rules Superstructure. End can veto this change, but is encouraged to do so only if absolutely necessary.
Whaddayathink, sirs?
