This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Right Stuf/Nozomi just announced they've got the license for the TV Series!!!!!!!!!
Edit: IT'S THE REMASTERED! Coming 2011.

Hell yes! I wonder if/when they'll broadcast it.
Edit: QUESTION ANSWERED.
And HOLY FUCKING SHIT the REMASTERED VERSION.
I think I just came.

Announcement here: http://twitter.com/animetoday
Of course, this means I will now have 3 different versions of SKU, but I'm preordering as soon as it's up.

Fuck. Now I actually need to own a licensed copy.
Note to releasers: DON'T FUCK THIS UP. GO ALL QUALITY, IF I SEE CHEAP PACKAGING AND SHITTY TRANSFER I WILL EAT YOU ALIVE.
They should know their market here is not n00bs but folks like us, and we can be picky if the quality falls short. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO.

Nozomi is known for the amazing releases of niche series. They also often have neat little treats for preorders, like cute phone charms and the like. Shoddy packaging is rather inconceivable. I've heard it will have a dub, which I assume means they got the CPM dub for it. Nozomi tends to skip dubs in order to provide a more polished product when they know it won't make much.
Edit: Here's the packaging for one of their fairly recent releases, Emma, which included booklets.

Dude, its Nozomi. It's going to be the Japanese DVDs + the English dub and probably new subs. That's what they do for all their re-releases. They'll also probably be in freaking beautiful thinpak cases too and not some flimsy cardboard.

Now I know what to buy with my mural money.

Thank you Nozomi. <-- can not adequately express my joy at this announcement.
Note to doubters: Nozomi KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. You will NOT be disappointed with this release. BUY IT!

Argh I never ever buy anime twice even if it's remastered but... DARN IT! Sigh... guess I have to
Like Mylene mentioned Nozomi is fantastic when it comes to DVD boxes. Maybe they'll use the sexy Japanese remastered covers. Now that would be awesome.

...now what am I going to do with my set of CPM DVDs? I have a feeling that anyone on the forums who doesn't want to spring for the remasters will suddenly be able to get the old DVDs cheap...
Seriously, though, this is awesome news. The remasters are great, and even if they just keep the release identical to the Japanese one and throw in the dub and subs, this will be a release worth owning.
And at least we can console ourselves that we haven't bought the same series as many times as devout Evangelion fans have.

I kind of hope they don't since I've already got those and would like some new/different art. But I won't wish ill against them if they do, nor anyone who hopes for it. They are rather beautiful.

This is the high point of my life. So glad to hear all the praise for Nozomi here-- anything less simply will not do.

I am on fucking board with this shit! No more rare DVD hunting for fans!
Utena deserves no less than the full big-money treatment.

Nozomi is also awesome when it comes to extras. What kind of extras would you guys like to see on these new DVDs? I'd like an artbook myself with lots of glossy images of official Utena art Maybe some Japanese commercials, a textless version of the opening and the unedited version of the 2nd ending which really does exist Also maybe have the duel songs playing without any voice over just for kicks.
They can remove the English voice actor interviews, they had no idea what they were talking about when it came to the show and weren't very passionate about it except for a few of them.

Nozomi is the premier fan-oriented R1 anime distributor, full stop. The best possible company has rescued Utena is all that anyone needs to know.
This will be a high quality release for certain, and Nozomi knows that it's people like us who are going to be buying this. But rest assured they'll do their best to bring even more people into the fold.
For more squeeing and info, see this thread on Mania.com (I'm Serial Experiments Nobue there, btw).

HOLY FUCK, THIS MADE MY NIGHT.
I have no problem dropping ridiculous amounts of money to show them that snatching this license was a good idea. This also means the remastered version will finally stop taking up 11 gbs of my hard drive. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh what fantastic news this is!
If they take out the dub I wouldn't exactly be let down cause all I've ever watched (and plan to watch) is the subbed version. I will molest that boxset for *hours* before actually watching it, especially if we get the delicious cover arts from the 10th anniversary release.

^ Lol sorry guys. It's only one scene but at :39 Utena and Anthy actually kiss. It was in some Japanese magazine.

Thank you for posting. I still wish for an unedited picture of the implied dipkiss that happens right after it. I love that shot so much and while the implied version makes me happy, that full on shot would turn my heart to goo.

thanks chrisb. Again then . Sorry that seem to have robbed me of my communication skills.

You mean in episode 39?
Anyhow, did that ending actually made to the TVs? I can just imagine the thousand parents of outrage screaming at Be-papas' door clamoring for Ikuhara... maybe Ms. Saito is his rose bride

Incidentally, if you read the report on Nozomi's AX panel, you will note that they will be soliciting fans for material that will be added to the DVD set. In other words, if I am reading it correctly...
We might be able to get IRG on to the new DVDs in some way!

I think he meat 39 seconds into his clip. XD
The Utena twitter bot informed me of this earlier. Well, the English one anyway.

You mean like... The same extras as the other DVDs? I don't care for the commercials personally. I didn't like them. D:
Seazer karaoke is weird though. (I DO IT AT EVERY PARTY. AND YOU BETTER TOO IF YOU'RE COMING.)
As long as they're good quality DVDs, they could give me a flaming bag of shit with them, and I wouldn't care.
And they talked more about themselves, and, I'm sorry, but I just don't CARE about how Jimmy Zoppi got his job.
I think that video is an edit, since I think the image is in the garrerly. (I assume it is, cause I know I have it anyway...) And it just... doesn't fit right really.
[edit:] Really? I hated the fanstuff they put in with the movie DVD. I thought it was really stupid. :\
