This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I wanna see D-ko get jiggy with Touga, but on the other hand, what's worth 5 points to Juri? God dammit. To many choices.
Okay. I vote Juri, but only reluctantly.

As Ragnarok kindly linked to, we already know what's worth 5 points to Juri... it was our choice last time.

Touga won the vote. However, I went ahead and translated the "don't talk with anyone" choice too, since I was also kind of curious about it. Let's start with that.
Alternate D-ko wrote:
D-ko:
No, it's my problem.
I should settle it on my own.
(I don't know what will happen tomorrow.)
I should just count sheep and get to sleep quick.
Chu-Chu:
Chuu.
D-ko:
Man, just when I'd resolved to go to sleep...
Go to sleep, Chu-Chu! I'll play more cards with you tomorrow.
Chu-Chu:
Chuu chuu.
D-ko:
Chu-Chu... what is it?
Chu-Chu:
Chuu chuu chuu.
D-ko:
You want me to look out the window?
Man, I guess there's no helping it...
But if you're just saying the stars are pretty,
I'm going to be angry.
(Music: Possession, D3T9.)
(The sound of a sword being drawn? And rain. It's pretty creepy.)
D-ko:
Who's there?
Chigusa:
This is your last night.
D-ko:
A duelist...?
(Who's coming in?)
Chigusa-san, is that you?
Chigusa:
Tomorrow... is your last.
You will disappear.
You will be (erased) from both the past and the future.
(crack of thunder)
D-ko:
I will... disappear?
What does it mean, "from both the past and the future"?
It's your kids, D-ko! Something's gotta be done about your kids!
And now, back to your regularly-scheduled Touga-macking.
D-ko:
Yeah, I should go talk with Touga.
He said he'd leave his door open, after all...
N, not that I have any weird expectations or anything...
I just think that Touga-san would have a good idea of what to do.
...I'm acting stupid.
Who am I making excuses to, anyway?
According to the box in the upper right, the Kiryuu residence is called the White House. Either the rest of the student body gave it that nickname, or Touga has reached hitherto-unsuspected levels of hilarious hubris.
(Music: Picaresque, D3T23. Of course.)
Touga:
So.
You came to my place after all...
D-ko:
Yes. Sorry to come in the middle of the night like this.
I'm just worried, and...
Touga:
I understand.
You wanted some human company tonight.
D-ko:
Touga-san... I...
Touga:
You don't need to say anything.
Just let yourself go, and leave everything to me.
D-ko:
Touga-san...
I, didn't mean for us to...
Ah!
"One day D-ko went to the White House to do nanpa. She was very tired after a big work. So she applied for comfort to any tender boy."
Now, here's the really funny part. Despite what you might be thinking, this scene isn't dependent on Touga inviting us to his house at dinner. Besides D-ko's opening thoughts, this same thing happens even if we've barely talked to Touga all game.
So apparently Touga just lies awake with his shirt off every night, waiting for a girl to wander into his bedroom. Because that's how Touga rolls.
TOUGA +3
53% -> ???
Last point drain of the game, folks. Our fate is now sealed.
UTENA -2
62 -> 54% (-8%)
TOUGA -2
??? -> 69%
SAIONJI -2
60 -> 40 (-20%)
JURI -2
63 -> 45 (-18%)
MIKI -2
163 -> 145 (-18%)
D-ko: (quietly)
I'm home...
Utena:
Welcome back.
Why are you coming back in the morning like this?
I was worried.
D-ko:
Um, yeah... I went out for a bit.
Sorry, I worried you?
Utena:
Yeah, a little.
I'm glad nothing happened, though.
Where the heck did you go, anyway?
D-ko:
Uh, that is...
Anthy:
Utena-sama, when they get to our age,
girls start needing to keep some secrets.
Utena:
They do?
Anthy:
Yes.
Utena:
Well, okay then, I won't ask.
But from now on, if you're going to sleep out,
it would be nice if you'd let me know.
D-ko:
Yeah. I'm sorry...
Sorry, Utena. But it was a really important night to me...
I'm sad that they didn't show us the "walk of shame" out of Touga's house. I was looking forward to Nanami's cutting remarks.
Miki:
Good morning, Himemiya-san.
Anthy:
Oh, good morning.
Utena:
What, no greeting for me?
Miki:
(laughing) Oh, sorry.
Good morning, Tenjou-sempai, Kageno-sempai.
By the way, today is finally the duel, isn't it?
How do you feel?
Utena:
"How do I feel...?" Eh, I dunno.
I don't even know who my opponent is.
Touga:
But surely you don't expect to lose.
Anthy:
Good morning, Kiryuu-sempai.
Touga:
Good morning, Anthy.
Good morning, D-ko-san.
It's been tough for you since you tranferred here,
but starting today, things should settle down.
Congratulations.
Utena:
Hey, we still don't know whether I'll actually win.
Don't act like everything's resolved already.
Touga:
You shouldn't talk like that.
I want you to keep winning until you face me.
Saionji:
Exactly, Tenjou Utena.
Saionji:
I won't forgive you if someone beats you before me.
Utena:
You've already gotten two whole chances!
Saionji:
Shut up!
They say the third time's the charm.
Miki:
But they also say "what happens two times happens three times."
Saionji:
What!?
For reference: 二度あることは三度ある
Juri:
What are you all going on about, so early in the morning?
Standing in a such a large clump in the street
is troublesome for other people.
Not to mention that the first bell is going to ring soon.
D-ko:
Oh, you're right!
It's almost time.
Anthy:
Now that you mention it,
I don't see any other students still on their way to class.
Utena:
Oh, no!
Let's run for it, Himemiya, D-ko!
D-ko:
Yeah, Utena!
Miki:
Ah, wait for me, please...!
Touga:
Juri, shouldn't you run, too?
Juri:
I'm arriving late today because I had Student Council business to attend to.
I'm not tardy.
Touga:
Of course not.
Saionji:
Oh, I see!
I didn't think of that.
Touga:
Well then, since the three of us have been so busy all morning,
let's just take our time, shall we?
I love scenes where everyone just hangs out. You know, like this one, and the badminton scene, and... um... yeah.
(the door to the classroom opens.)
Teacher: (Male)
Sanjouin...? What is it?
Chigusa:
I'm afraid I wasn't feeling well this morning.
Excuse me. I'm still recuperating...
Teacher:
I see. Well, from now on, please contact your homeroom teacher.
We were worried.
Chigusa:
Of course.
Teacher:
Alright, then. Sit down.
Chigusa: (quietly)
Well, well.
(My compliments to those Student Council people.)
D-ko:
Huh?
Chigusa:
But I'm still going to win.
Even without borrowing their power.
D-ko:
What are you talking about, Chigusa-san?
Could you be...?
"...a totally incompetent puppetmaster who couldn't even lure Saionji to your side? I mean, come on, it's Saionji. How hard could it be?"
(The bells ring, signaling the end of class. Students chat, and so on.)
Utena;
Ahh, it's over, it's over.
C'mon, let's head back.
D-ko:
Huh? But, the morning classes have only just finished...
Utena:
Nah...
Today, the school decided that we only have class in the morning.
Didn't you hear?
D-ko:
Eh? Is that right...?
And, that's right... if I believe that masked person at the ball,
today is the day that I'm supposed to disappear...
Today, if Utena loses her duel...
Utena:
What is it? Is there something on my face?
D-ko:
No, nothing like that, but...
Hey, Utena. If that card from before is right,
you have a duel today, right?
Utena:
Oh, you're right! That's today.
D-ko:
"That's today..."
Utena, did you forget about it?
Utena:
No, I remembered that it was coming up soon, but...
You know, usually duels happen right away,
(because someone suddenly gets all crazy or whatever.)
So anyway, I wonder why the 25th?
I think it's better to duel right away.
D-ko:
...hey, Utena? If you lose, I might disappear.
Utena:
Yeah. But, we don't know if that's true or not...
And anyway, if I win, it will probably be fine, right?
D-ko:
Yeah... probably.
Utena:
I may not look it, but I'm pretty strong.
I'm undefeated in my four duels, you know.
D-ko:
...yeah.
Utena:
C'mon, don't look so gloomy.
Today's a half-day... let's go into town to celebrate.
If it's okay, want to come with me?
D-ko:
Utena, you have a duel this evening!
Utena:
Oh, yeah.
D-ko:
Keep it together, Utena!
Utena:
Yeah, but, unlike normal, I don't even know who I'm dueling...
so I don't know how nervous to be or anything.
D-ko:
...(sigh)
What should I do... is there anyone I can talk with besides Utena?
CHOICE:
Touga (Nothing, or TOUGA +1 and receive key)
Saionji (SAIONJI +1 and receive key, or SAIONJI +1 and UTENA +1 and receive key)
Juri (JURI +1, or JURI +1 and UTENA +1)
Miki (MIKI +1 and referral to Tsuji-sensei, or MIKI +2 and referral to Tsuji-sensei)
Okay, I'm going to have to spoil a little bit of future plot here so I can explain the game mechanics. Sorry.
Soon, we're going have a chance to do a little bit of detective work. There are several different options of what to do, but it's one of those junctures where we can pursue every option available to us. Obviously, that's what we'll be doing.
However! One of the options at that point depends on who we choose now. Specifically, talking to Saionji or Touga gives us a key to the Student Council archives, and if we choose Miki, he tells us to go talk to Tsuji-sensei, the teacher who's been at Ohtori the longest. (Juri tells us to go name-drop her at the newspaper club, but we can go to the newspaper club no matter who we choose, and talking to Juri doesn't seem to affect anything. I'm not sure what's going on there.)

That was satisfying, Dallbun. In more ways than one. Thank you.
I vote we talk to Saionji.

You are awesome!
Because that's how Touga rolls.
Who the hell do you think Touga is!
I'm kind of more curious about the Student Council Archive... so Saionji or Touga?

Damn, that scene with Chigusa outside D-ko's window was CREEPY. Thank you, Dalbun!
Oh, Touga.. That's.. hilarious.. and pretty realistic. I wanted to see a walk of shame too though. Somehow I'm surprised they actually did it, but it is Utena..
I vote Saionji although I'm kinda curious about the teacher Miki refers to..

God's honest truth, but I thought it was SO OBVIOUS that they were alluding to Touga banging the shit out of you that I thought...naaaah. That's too easy. There must be some deeper plotline here, or Touga will have another manipulative agenda if you show.
I was wrong. Touga, you sir, deliver.
Let's go to Saionji though. If this were Dragon Age I could promise you he'll have choice words about your behavior, but he's probably too hopeless to recognize the scent of Touga on you.
Offline
Saionji because there's Utena involvement, or yeah and plot too.
Offline
Definitely Saionji. I remember that scene in the Student Council archives from the show, where they're all fruitlessly investigating the mysterious organization (the Mikage Seminar) that seems to have it out for them and Utena. I always wondered what exactly they were looking for.
I continue to love this game's dialogue, and Chigusa's frustration is music to my ears. Thank you, Dallbun!!

It shouldn't have been a surprise... But I really didn't expect the game to go that far! I fail as an Ohtori student.
I was wondering why Anthy would cover for D-ko like that, surely even the slippery mambo isn't that entertaining. Maybe she's using the opportunity to avoid explaining her Saturday nights?
I'm going to vote for Miki, since I'm curious about this Tsuji-sensei person. (Plus it seems like I've ended up in the majority vote this entire playthrough. I shouldn't get my way all the time!)

I still can't believe Touga's pink lace canopy. I suppose it makes the sweet young things feel at home...
I vote Saionji.

I also thought it was too obvious to be real, but Touga is so direct to the point. No ambiguity. Just this and that. Like the magically opening shirt. No mysteries there.
Everything is ~so pink~ in Touga's bedroom. And awww, a shot of morning-after D-ko. It's so cute. Well.. almost.
I'm curious about Tsuji-sensei too... but more about what happens at the Student Council archives, so let's go with Saionji. I doubt there's any more making out sessions left with Touga anyway. XD We may not even get something rude and snarky.

Is it just me who's vaguely bothered about how a little too relaxed Utena is with someone probably disappearing if she loses? Or about losing at all? How un-prince-ly? Idk? Why, Utena, why? :/

OK, this officially the best line ever. Go Miki.
And Touga. I'm wondering how D-Ko managed to find his room, anyway? Glittering neon pointing arrows? Glittering Neon Flashing Nemuro Hands? Or just the trail of miscellaneous articles of girl's clothing and the ever increasing stench of sweat and shame?
I say we go and see Saionji, because I am a hopeless fanbrat.

Oh okay, even though I'm curious about this mysterious teacher we've never heard of before, I'll go ahead and say Saionji.
Also, did Touga just take our virginity? Does this mean that he took the collective virtual viginity of around 15 people at once, since we all collectivley make up D-Ko's thoughts and actions?

Oh Utena, just you wait and you'll soon know the joy of surprise duelists with the Black Rose saga.
I say that we should go to Saionji and hope that hilarity will ensue. It's Saionji, so that's pretty much a given. (Saionji crouched in a tree eating a banana, chirping "chu chu" comes to mind)

I vote for Touga, because I want to see if he'll offer us another night of "company." Or allude to the one we just shared.

Miki. I'd like to talk to Tsuji-sensei...the idea that a teacher might have a role to play beyond a 30 second interlude is intriguing.
Offline
D-ko will go talk to the wisest, most comforting person she knows: Saionji!
...
D-ko
Right, I'll go see Saionji-san.
He'll definitely lend me his strength...
If by "lend you his strength" you mean "dismissively brush you off," then sure. Saionji will totally do that.
Saionji:
You...? What is it?
D-ko:
Well, I just wanted to consult with you about something...
Saionji:
Consult with me?
Fine, I'm listening.
D-ko:
Okay...
Actually...
CHOICE:
Chigusa is the Duelist (SAIONJI +1)
I want to help Utena (SAIONJI +1, UTENA +1)
Not great options. By now, D-ko should have learned the correct way to talk to Student Council Arc Saionji:
"Anthy wanted me to tell you that Chigusa is the Duelist."
"Anthy wants us to help Utena."
Offline
Wait, D-ko finally figured out Chigusa is the duelist? Why didn't she tell Utena during the whole "I don't even know who I'm fighting" conversation? And which of the obvious tipoffs finally gave her a clue? Or is the game simply being polite to the player(s) and letting us finally fill in the blanks for the cast?
I vote Chigusa is the Duelist, to maybe answer some of those questions.
