This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Nakashima Mika - Help

I'm getting kinda desperate. While I was in Japan in late august/early september, we stopped in at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara before taking the Narita express to the airport and flying home. I was looking for a good pair of headphones for the flight back, and was testing several they had hooked up to the same system which played the SAME SONG over and over and over again on a loop.

The song was absolutely gorgeous and I really really want a copy of it. All I was able to get out of the nice man trying to help me was the artist's name is Nakashima Mika. (either he ignored my question about the song's title or I butchered the Japanese enough that he figured giving me the artist's name was sufficient)

Anyhoo, I've gone on You Tube and listened to the following tracks and I've yet to find it. If anyone is a fan of her music, or if someone is currently in the Akihabara area and could scout this out, I'd love you forever.

What it's not (so far as I can tell):
Aishiteru
Cry No More
Destiny's Lotus
Eien no Uta
Fake
Find the Way
Glamorous Sky
Helpless Rain
Hitoiro
Hitori
I Love You
It's Too Late
Legend
Life
Mienai Hoshi
My Medicine
My Sugar Cat
Oborozukiyo Inori
One Survive
Resistance
Rose
Sakurairo
Seppun
Seven
Stars
Sunao na mama
Will
Yuki no Hana

What I remember of it is VERY dark piano and longing vocals. I don't remember any other instruments, but I could of course be wrong.

Edit: Updated list of "not its"

Re: Nakashima Mika - Help

I assume from your description that it was a very slow, ballad-like song then?  Dark piano, longing vocals?  I'm not familiar with the artist, but I'm currently going through all of the soundclips on CDJapan's Neowing partner site, and thus far haven't found it just yet, but I'm looking.

Damn it, I probably would be a good reference librarian...when I find a question I might be able to find the answer to, I can't get myself to stop working on it, even when I have other things to do. emot-tongue

There were a few songs that sort of met your description, depending on what you consider dark piano and longing vocals: "Sunao na mama," "The dividing line," and "Kinenuta" that I've found thus far.  I'm going to plow through the other couple of pages as well, just in case.

Mika Nakashima? I'm only familiar with her work on the NANA soundtracks, so I can't really help you out. I'm sorry.

Thanks for helping out!!! emot-dance

I listed to Sunao na mama, and that's a bit too up-tempo and light. This was a lot darker than that. I couldn't find listenable copies of Dividing Line and Kinenuta, though. emot-frown

The quest is still on!
