Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

We run and jump and swim and play...we row and go on trips....
But the things that last forever...are our dear friendships!....

if you can identify that...you rule...and you probably were just smacked in the face by nostalga taking over your whole being... well TAKE THIS 90'S KIDS!
If you grew up in the 90's you've gotta read this:
Anybody under the age of 13 should not read this

You're a 90's kid if:

You remember watching Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, and Two Stupid Dogs.

AAAAAAAH real monsters.

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "SIKE!"

You just cant resist finishing this... "Iiiiiiin west philladelphia born and raised..."

You remember TGIF on ABC. Step by Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, and Boy Meets World.

You remember when, 2Pac and Selena died.

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school. emot-dance

You remember reading "Goosebumps."

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time."

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?

Captain Planet. He's a Hero.

You remember when super nintendo's and Sega Genisis became popular.

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders."

You remember watching The Magic School Bus, Wishbone, and Reading Rainbow on PBS.

When you were grown up when you turned 7, cuz you could watch are you afraid of the dark because it was tvY7!

You remember those Where's Waldo books.

You remember when Mortal Kombat Was "Da Bomb"!

You remember eating Warheads.(those sour candys.)

You remember watching the 1st Batman, Aladdin, Ninja Turtles, and 3 Ninjas movies.

You remember Ring Pops.

You remember when POGS were the coolest thing ever.

You remember drinking Fruitopia and Surge.

If you memeber when every thing was "da BOMB"

When they made the new lunchables so that you could make tacos and pizza!!

You remember "boom boxes" vs. cd players

Writing M.A.S.H. notes. (and the twenty different versions of that. i still do out of boredom!)

Making those little paper fortune cookie things.. and then predicting your life with them. (i do that too!)

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"

You haven't always had a computer...and u lived without the internet. (who woulda thought)

You watched the original cartoons of Rugrats, Power Rangers, and Ninja Turtles.

You had a favorite New Kid on the block, and you knew all of their names

Michael Jordan was a king.

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

Carebears and The Gummy Bear show.

Gak was the coolest thing invented.

Lambchop's song never ended.

The old dollar bills.

Silver dollars, were cool to have.

You collected all the Troll dolls.

You owned a portable tape player.

If you even know what an original walkman is.

You remember when Nickelodeon was worth watching....every day after school*

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said.

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

You know the significance of the number 23.

You went to McD's to play in the playplace.

When we were younger:
Before the MySpace frenzy...
Before the Internet & text messaging...
Before Sidekicks & iPods...
Before MIKE JONES...
Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...
Before Sponge Bob...

When light up sneakers were cool.
When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.
When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.
When we recorded stuff on VCRs.
When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.
When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.
When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.
Way back...
Before we realized all this would eventually disappear
Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!! lets remember together!

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

Ha, I am totally going back to my eighties roots myself...I spent last night watching "The Goonies" because I was nostalgic. And then I downloaded a massive ONE HUNDRED KILOBYTES of gameage in the form of "Transylvania," a text-based adventure game I played in the late eighties on green-screen computers in primary school. I never realised how much I missed being eaten by that badly rendered werewolf every five minutes... [wipes away a tear]

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

I remember the old days of the last century in Australia when:

...mobile phones were only in the hands of yuppies and trademens

...and all you can do with a mobile phone was call someone with it

...and you certainly couldn't play music, take photos or surf the internet on your mobile

...most Aussies didn't even know what an internet was yet

...before things like Playstation appeared, people went to these places called video arcades

...KFCs were called Kentucky Fried Chicken

...when PC HDDs were measured in Megabytes not Gigabytes

...when ABC TV was worth watching in the afternoons

...when the only animes was available by paying $40 for 1-2 episodes of an anime series on VHS or maybe choose from a dozen anime movies to rent at the Video Store

...when CGI in movies actually wowed people (these days we are all jaded)

...when I have never even heard of Subway

My oldest sister mentioned a couple of things from her childhood so I will add those things, she remembers when:

...computers were room sized and they needed punchcards

...Mr Hooper on Sesame Street was still alive

...when colour TVs first appeared in Australia

...milk was still delivered to your door

---Charlie's Angels was her favourite show.

You're a 90's kid if:

You remember watching Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, and Two Stupid Dogs.
Ah, Nicktoons and the original Kids WB rocked my socks off. I used to have very dirty fantasies about Freakazoid. etc-wankgirl

You remember TGIF on ABC. Step by Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, and Boy Meets World.
I also have vague recollections of the short-lived shows that rotated through when Dinosaurs went off.  "Camp Wilder" with Jerry
O'Connell and Hilary Swank come to mind.

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.
Hell, I still remember when NBC was still MAKING cartoons before it gave up to concentrate on teen comedies.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school. emot-dance
*cough*Imanagedtofinditontheinternet*cough*

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time."
...and you had to hit "stop" and "record" at the right times to avoid the DJ's.

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?
She's on the Oregon Trail...with dysentery, somewhere around Independence Rock.

You remember watching The Magic School Bus, Wishbone, and Reading Rainbow on PBS.
And Square One, it helped mold me into the socially-awkward math nerd I am today.

When you were grown up when you turned 7, cuz you could watch are you afraid of the dark because it was tvY7!
That was the most awesome show! I had this massive crush on Gary, the one with the glasses. etc-loveetc-love

You haven't always had a computer...and u lived without the internet. (who woulda thought)
I'd remained unaware of the power of the internets until I'd gotten to college in 98. It now owns my mortal soul.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm ever gonna make it home again.
It's so far and out of sight.

Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Animaniacs.. oh yes.. those were.. no, are quality cartoons!  Not to forget The Tick!  Spoon!!!

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

I never had cable as a little kid. I had it for a period of about two months when I was in high school but all anyone ever watched was Jon Stewart so we cancelled our subscription and caught the clips on Youtube - that's another one, before Youtube. (of course, now we don't get our Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert there anymore... *fumes*)

And I STILL love Warheads, though I've never ended a sentence with the word "sike" in my life. "Sike" isn't even a word.

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

I remember the old days on the internet when the men were men and the women were also men. emot-tongue

In the old days, boys uesd to keep dirty magazines of naked women under their mattresses and their mums always found them, nowdays, they keep jpgs of girls sucking dog dicks and other sick ass shit in a secret file and their mums have no idea at all.

in the old days, if you posted a picture of a model and claimed it was you, plenty of suckers believed you, nowdays, only morons fall for that old trick.

In the old days, finding anything besides porn on the internet was very time consuming, nowdays they have Wikipedias and Google.com

In the old days, real lesbians had to deal with all the guys and fake girls who invade the lesbian chatrooms, nowdays they just pose as guys and hang out in yaoi chatrooms where most actual guys wouldn't dare tread.

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

Back in the old days Windows was a novelty, not a neccecity and Linux was just a dream in the back of Linus Torvalds' brain. Windows 95 was expensive and useless toy. I can still remember that Star Wreck episode...

"Back in the end of the 20th century a madman aided by a vast organization and near-infinite resources developed a computer virus that could make the most advanced systems freeze".
"Sounds pretty dangerous".
"That's exactly what Microsoft Windows 95 was, but here we can use it [to destroy the Korg ship]".
emot-rolleyes

I learned of the Internet pretty early and used it every now and then in school and other places that actually had an access, but I only really got into using it when I entered junior high and thanks to my father's work, was among the first ones to get a DSL line. These days I couldn't live without it.

I've never had a cable-TV. Those aren't exactly common in my country. Doesn't make really difference now, thanks to digi-TV, but believe it or not, I was quite content in living with four TV channels. The hundreds of channels you have in the US still boggle me.
I still remember when the cellphones started to make their big break - my country was among the first in line, thanks to Nokia being from here.

I turned 7 in 1985.

Hey, I was born then!

In the old days, finding anything besides porn on the internet was very time consuming, nowdays they have Wikipedias and Google.com

That's what AltaVista and HotBot were for.

You remember TGIF on ABC. Step by Step, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, and Boy Meets World.
Erin only remembers Boy Meets World.

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.
I still have the game at hoooome. XD

You remember reading "Goosebumps."
YES. And my favorites were the interactive ones, where you make the choices and you go to a certain page number.

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.
Pirate!Mickey Mouse was mine.

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.
Gaaah.

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time."

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?
I would watch that EVERY DAY after school. EVERY DAY.

Captain Planet. He's a Hero.
And yet, today they mock him. So sad.

You remember when super nintendo's and Sega Genisis became popular.
Ja. With the cartrages and such.

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching The Magic School Bus, Wishbone, and Reading Rainbow on PBS.
Wishbone and Reading Rainbow were the main shows that taught me how to read and give me my appreciation for literature. The Magic School Bus was the one that got me excited for science class every day.

When you were grown up when you turned 7, cuz you could watch are you afraid of the dark because it was tvY7!

You remember those Where's Waldo books.

You remember eating Warheads.(those sour candys.)
Every now and again, I see them in stores, and I buy, like, five packages.

You remember watching the 1st Batman, Aladdin, Ninja Turtles, and 3 Ninjas movies.
I remember squeeing over Robin. And I still do. And I remember hating Jasmine. Bitch. -_-*

You remember Ring Pops.

If you remember when every thing was "da BOMB"

When they made the new lunchables so that you could make tacos and pizza!!

I was never allowed to have them, though.

You remember "boom boxes" vs. cd players
*snerk* I got my first boom box when I was in kindergarten.

Writing M.A.S.H. notes.
*still does that*

Making those little paper fortune cookie things.. and then predicting your life with them.
*still does that too*

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"
I did, but now the only people I remember are Screech, the principal, and Mario Lopez's character. >w<

You watched the original cartoons of Rugrats, Power Rangers, and Ninja Turtles.
Well, only Rugrats. I always thought Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles were TEH LAME.

Michael Jordan was a king.

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!
I still have mine. Somewhere.

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

Carebears and The Gummy Bear show.

Gak was the coolest thing invented.
It totally was.

Lambchop's song never ended.
YEEE LAMBCHOP!! I have a Lambchop puppet somewhere, and several Lambchop sing-along videos!

Silver dollars, were cool to have.

I have twelve put away in the bank. *nodnodnod*

You owned a portable tape player.
I have one still.

If you even know what an original walkman is.
I have one of those, too.

You remember when Nickelodeon was worth watching....every day after school.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"
There was this one episode about the Scarecrow that freaked me out really bad and gave me nightmares.

You know the Macarena by heart.
I requested that song at Aunt Michelle's wedding back in 1999.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said.
*le gasp* My sister knows that, but she's, like, six.

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"
I think it stemmed from the 80s, though, didn't it? From Pee-Wee's Playhouse?

You went to McD's to play in the playplace.

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

I feel so... so back in that times after reading this...

Family Matters, are you afraid of the dark, goosebumps, Doug, ren and stimpy, real monsters, i remember ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE...

I miss that times so much. I remember my sister listening Tarkan and Savage Garden....

Ring pops, push pops....

Lisa Frank emot-gonk

DALE A TU CUERPO ALEGRIA MACARENA!

Oh, good 90's. I wish i could go back to that time. You know, i remember this stuff 'cause i'm a mexican 90's kid, in Spain they don't have an idea of who Doug is, or ren and stimpy, not even beavis and butthead!! no pop tarts, no lisa frank, no afraid of the dark...

I miss mi childhood. I miss Doug, i cried so hard with him. Ginger was my idol D:

I think i was lucky of being a 90's kid and not a 2000 kid, this kids doesn't have this popular culture at all, there's no fashion sense, no commun feel of general fashion ir / or commun things in general, everybody can do what they feel like, and nobody shares a thing with the rest of the people of your class. I think it's kinda sad. It like if you were living in your own world appart of the rest, without sharing.

Oddly enough, Utena: The Movie caused me to go on a huge nostalgia trip a few months ago. The view of the dueling arena from the elevator reminded me of something in a videogame, but at the time, I couldn't remember what it was. I spent hours trying to figure out why it was that I felt such a strong feeling of deja vu whenever I looked at it, and eventually, I finally did. After that, I started thinking about all the videogames I played as a kid. The list could go on forever.

One of these days, I want to buy an NES, Sega Genisis, and all those other old game systems so that I can play them again. I grew up playing videogames. I don't play them quite as often anymore, though. (Well, except for The Sims...) Even The Sims played a huge role in my childhood.

Speaking of Rocko's Modern Life, I came across a video of all the sexual innuendo in Rocko's Modern Life last week. It's amazing how much stuff I didn't notice when I was a kid.

You remember watching the 1st Batman, Aladdin, Ninja Turtles, and 3 Ninjas movies.
I remember that they had a series of Aladdin on TV a long time ago. And way, way, back, they had Alice in Wonderland acted out by real people.

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.
I still remember buying my first Beanie Baby. Back then, all the kids brought their Beanie Babies to school. To this day, I still collect cat Beanie Babies.

Carebears and The Gummy Bear show.
I still remember the theme song to the Gummy Bear show, as well as the My Little Pony show. Say, did anyone watch Rainbow Bright?

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"
Everything creeped me out when I was a kid.

Re: Childhood: take a moment to remember the good ol' days!

I am a 90's child. I remember Goosebumbs; my dad read them to me at bed time. (I though choose your own adventure books were the coolest thing.) I watched Ah! Real Monsters and Carmen Sandiego. (I coukd never figure out where she was before the TV people did. emot-frown)I was a huge Bill Nye fan when I was little; I watched it every week, and I loved him. I thought he was the greatest.  I was a huge Carebears fan, I loved Lambchop, and I had this awsome Beauty and The Beast plastic lunchbox which I loved. I owned Lisa Frank stuff. (I still have some of my old binders.) Gack was the best! emot-smile I'm pretty sure I still have a Walkman.
...And once when I was small, I got myself stuck in the McDonald's Playplace beacuse I went really high up in a tube thingy and I was too scared to come down the silde. My mom yelled at me.

emot-keke This thread makes me happy. etc-loveemot-dance

FUCKING YES.

And yet I cannot find ANY of his videos ANYWHERE. They have them at the schools, but at no public libraries where the teachers supposedly RECIEVE THEM FROM.

My poor brother and sisters are going to miss out on the Bill Nye awesomeness. Poor little midget-children. *pets her eight-year-old brother, and her six-year-old and two-year-old sisters*
