This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Re: Cosplaying Utena

Yeah, mark me down please! I'll go in for a ring! Every once in a while, I'd see them on ebay, but usually only the Black Rose Rings, while I wanted the silver... What a great idea!

Might as well get in myself. I could always use a way to mark myself as an Utena fan without looking strange to the unenlightened amongst the population.

I wish I could split this part off into a separate thread. I'll make a new one in a couple days (sorry guys, tests again).

Re: Cosplaying Utena

I've always been a fan of this girl's cosplay, because she does my favorite character from Angel Sanctuary, the insane angel Rosiel, so well. Stunning photos! So I was *very glad* when she actually did a Utena character, but shocked at her apparent disregard for the series itself (which you can read here: http://angelsanctuary.com/index2.htm). Oh well, to each his own.

I don't know enough about the rules of posting photos of other people's cosplay to actually do that, but I will leave the links, because I know that's okay...

Touga & Saionji

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1ee.jpg

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1dd.jpg

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1cc.jpg

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1ff.jpg

The student council, with Touga * Saionji in a great pose

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1aa.jpg

Akio in front of the student council

http://angelsanctuary.com/rosiel/photo. … uga1bb.jpg

About the photo-posting rules...maybe you guys will know. For instance, I like this particular girl's Touga photos. I know I cannot link right from her site, but is it "legal" to save her picture to my computer, then upload it to photobucket, and then link from that site? Or, before you use any photo for anything, are you supposed to contact the person...if it is on their personal site? But if it is on a common site for everyone, like cosplay.com, then you can take the photos and share them?

Re: Cosplaying Utena

I've cosplayed Juri and Nanami.

Juri:
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/0702g20072.jpg
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/rosegardenpeeps.jpg
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/ohtouga.jpg

Nanami:
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/nanami2.jpg
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/nanami3.jpg
- http://www.arisugawa.org/cosplay/ax18.jpg
- http://www.arisugawa.org/ax05/gyppingtouga.jpg

(Apologies for the narcissism.)

In any case, it seems this thread has already hit upon most of my favorites -- Rosiel and Ali's Touga and Saionji are fantastic.  Ideally, I'd like to completely rehaul both of my Juri costumes, but that requires both time and a renewed interest in cosplay, of which I'm sorely lacking.  Perhaps I'll bust them out in a labor of love (pain) for Utena's 10 year anniversary in 2007.

Those are absolutely gorgeous cosplayers! I really really like the Nanami ones, your expression is brilliant!

Anyway, I am thinking of cosplaying black rose Shiori and I'm wondering if anyone knows any way how to get a sword like Juri's? Or how to make a black rose crest?

Much appreciated!

Re: Cosplaying Utena

Did you get that ring made when the Utena ML was talking about it years ago?  I wanted to go in on it back then, but I couldn't afford it.  I would DEFINATELY get one if I had the opportunity again.

Yep, it was the mailing list for the Utena Encyclopedia. You can use the Wayback Machine to see the original thread, I looked it up hoping to attempt to contact the guy, but his email has changed. No surprise there since that was like five years ago.

Re: Cosplaying Utena

Thank you all for the compliments -- Utena cosplay is always so much fun to do, and I'm growing all the more inclined to give it one more go despite a recent lack of enthusiasm towards costuming.

Wasn't there a cosplay section of the fandom page on EM, once?

Re: Cosplaying Utena

There was, yes, but it was one of the things we canned when Yasha took over donations, because I used to get absolutely flooded with pictures. Now that we're doing selective donating, maybe we'll go back to including cosplay at some point, although Yasha worked so hard on the current fandom layout that I think she'll object to any effort to change it for a while... emot-wink

Thread necromancy is not an issue on a forum like this. It's only a problem when there's no new ground being covered.

Also, she looks so hot. Wow.
