The lesson of the day

Every time I think I need a pick-me-up or am in a troubled spot in my life and need advice, I think of the lovely people here In the Rose Garden... so I thought of this thread idea. (:

It's simple. Whatever happened in your day, if you learned some kind of lesson, "moral," or advice, post it here! The shorter, the better. You don't have to go into an elaborate story.. think fortune cookies!

My day just started so I don't have anything interesting, but I'll start things off: Dress to please yourself, not other people. (yeah yeah, probably over-done.. but you all can think of some more interesting things, I'm sure!)

(If this is totally a stupid idea, please feel free to tell me... ;P I just would look forward to reading the IRGer's pearls of wisdom!)

I think it is a great idea emot-smile

Listen to your stomach. It's bigger than your heart and it's bigger than your eyes and it knows it can't fit all 12 inches of that home-made simmered-for-4-hours po'boy in. You really do feel better afterwards. emot-biggrin

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

Don't feel guilty for enjoying a lazy, fun day after working hard all week. Especially if it involves sex.

Don't listen to your body all the time. Listen to your soul. Sometimes cookie dough ice cream should be eaten with the cookie dough saved for after the ice cream's gone.

Strangers can be amazingly kind, but sometimes you should take a step back and appreciate ordinary kindness from those closest to you.

Just because it started getting warmer in the past two days, doesn't mean it's gonna be the same on the third.

I always pretend it's nighttime or a heavy gray rain is falling out side - that the world and all its responsibilities are temporarily put on hold.

But screw that now I'm gonna be a kitteh. emot-dance

The fact that a person doesn't know what they're talking about doesn't mean you can safely ignore them.

Be careful not to let another person's emotions affect you too much. Sometimes a little emotional distance is necessary. It doesn't mean you don't still love them.

Getting out of bed is sometimes a greater victory than some think it is.

Alternatively: Sometimes a good day is more about taking steps against negativity in thought and action.

Lesson 1: When the prospect of revising a paper seems overwhelming, print it out and take your red pen to it. Seeing it laid out on the page and being able to hold and feel it will, at the very least, change your perception of it.

Lesson 2: Read the fine print to be sure that something you're considering buying/doing will apply to your situation.
