Pick a despair

Go on, pick one that you think defines a Utena character, or even you if you wanna throw that in. Because I'm a master of pessimism: http://despair.com/viewall.html

Bitterness

http://despair.com/bitterness.html

Never be afraid to share your dreams with the world, because there's nothing the world loves more than the taste of really sweet dreams.

Is that Juri or what? If there was subtitles that translate what the characters really mean instead of what they say. I guarantee those would be at the bottom of the screen during Shiori's "believe in miracles" scene.

Elitism - It's lonely at the top, but it's comforting to look down upon everyone at the bottom.

Akio most likely. Like the stereotype of Lucifer he probably believes that it's better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven, nonetheless he cannot help staring at the stars and sighing. It parallels his attitude to Miss Tenjou "Heaven Above", he is drawn to her but wants to subdue her and make her his Princess. But even if he won, he would lose because such a defeated Utena would just turn into another Rose Bride and she would cease to shine for him.

Re: Pick a despair

Beauty - If you're attractive enough on the outside, people will forgive you for being irritating to the core.
I imagine Nanami has this on her wall.

Destiny - You were meant for me. Perhaps as a punishment.
That's creepily Anthy.

Goals - It's best to avoid standing directly between a competitive jerk and his goals.
I didn't know Saionji was a blonde in his early years.

Worth - Just because you're necessary doesn't mean you're important

Re: Pick a despair

Flattery If you want to get to the top, prepare to kiss a lot of the bottom. (Just so Touga)

Power Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. But it rocks absolutely, too. (Akio knows this all too well)

Humiliation The harder you try, the dumber you look. (Look what happened to Shiori)

Procrastination Hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now. (Now this is something I can relate to.)

Underachievement
The tallest blade of grass is the first to be cut by the lawnmower.
I think the Student Council needs to remember this one.

Insanity
It's difficult to comprehend how insane some people can be. Especially when you're insane.
Daww, Mikage~~

Elitism
It's lonely at the top, but it's comforting to look down upon everyone at the bottom.
Touga, in his mind.

Delusions
There is no greater joy than soaring high on the wings of your dreams, except maybe the joy of watching a dreamer who has nowhere to land but in the ocean of reality.
That's the whole show right there I think. X_x

I feel that the procrastination pic you have here resembles Juri's initial lack of pro-activeness in making her feelings known, secretly waiting for the power of the miracle to do it for her, but that's just me.

Why is it so many that go with Juri I apply to myself. Darn my egoism. Great poster Tamago! *totally pretensious* it speaks to me.......

Agreed

I remember my friend telling me that at her work place, they put motivational posters up and she was telling me a few phrases, I thought that was cute, and resolved myself to get her this:

Motivation-If a pretty poster and a cute saying are all it takes to motivate you, you probably have a very easy job. The kind robots will be doing soon.

Oh yes, more Utena ones:

Mistakes-It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

Mikage....poor poor Mikage.

Sacrifice-Your role may be thankless, but if you're willing to give it your all, you just might bring success to those who outlast you.

Anthy???

Looks like my Demotivator was right on the money etc-love , I was thinking of creating my own Procrastination  Poster and the first thing I thought of that would fit the symbolism was a dead goldfish.

I think this can also be Utena. After all, she's the one who took the swords in place of Anthy, and she's the one who technically pulled Anthy out of the academy.

That's pessimistic in one way and hilarious in other way. Why does it remind me of Akio's shocked face in the last episode? emot-biggrin Well, and a bit about Mikage school-freud

Of course, it also works very well for Juri and Shiori.

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

Re: Pick a despair

Just because I was in a thread revival mood, and the other day my friend came round and in trying to dump her pet turtles on me, I subtly indicated Tamago's goldfish demotivator (which I have already saved) dropping it into the conversation in reference to myself. Suffice to say I think she got the message.
