Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

The forum was down for about an hour this afternoon, from about 2:00 to 3:00 PM EDT.  Sorry to anyone who tried to access IRG during this time!  I'm pretty sure the problem was server-side, meaning there's nothing we can do about it.  I don't think we've had downtime this extreme for a while, though sometimes we're down for five- or ten-minute periods throughout the day.  It's a little sad that the site isn't as reliable as it used to be emot-frown  But unless it gets worse I expect we'll manage to soldier through it.

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

Actually the site has always been kinda like that, it's just now the forum gets a lot more traffic over the course of the day, it used to be that people really stuck to showing up at certain times, but now it gets 24 hour monitoring, soo...

For this one I might check the contract we're under and contact them, though. The site itself didn't come down, it was just anything running MySQL: forum, blog, gallery.

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

Okay it came down again today for a while, so tonight I'm going to be sending out support tickets. I checked the CPanel and I did have 3900/4000 MB taken up on the server, which probably wasn't helping me make any friends, so I deleted it, and we'll see if that helps. Bear with me! emot-smile

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

We had some more unscheduled downtime today.  I'm not sure quite how long it lasted; based on surrounding post times it might have been as much as two hours, but I can only attest to forty minutes, from about 1:10 to 1:50.

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

I get weird errors on the forum every so often. Sometimes it'll ask me what I want to do with the file viewforum.php, like I was trying to save it, and hadn't just clicked a link to a new section.

I'd take a cap, but I have no idea how to do it on a Mac keyboard.

I had this problem a while ago too.  I think it probably has to do with the browser, not the forum.  Try clearing your cache?

In Firefox, go to Tools -> Clear Private Data -> Clear Private Data Now.  In Explorer on Windows XP, Tools -> Delete Browsing History -> Delete All.  Not sure how to do it in Vista's version of Explorer.

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

I use Firefox on a Linux machine, anyway, so Windows directions do me no good (maybe they'll do someone else some good though).

Let's see if that helps. Thanks Satyreyes~

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

And we're back!  Sorry about that, folks.  The site host got its wires crossed as far as billing information, hence the half-day or so of downtime we had this afternoon.  The threads, fortunately, appear to be intact.  Welcome back!  emot-smile

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

I like the new title of the Announcements section!  But the O sound in that word is long; it should be romanized either gougai or gōgai.  (The first is more in keeping with the system we've usually used on IRG -- Touga instead of Tōga, Kiryuu instead of Kiryū, etc.)  This an HTML issue, so only Gio or Yasha's magic webmistress powers can save us!  emot-gonk

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

Your subtly worded suggestion is my command. emot-wink

I think the use of ou is because if we spelled it as Tōga I would absolutely never, ever, ever be able to discuss him seriously without first an hour long gigglefest of stupid toga puns.

Re: Report layout glitches, bugs, and forum meltdowns here!

As long as this thread has been around, I am surprised that it hasn't been stickied. It just seems the type that ought to be...

More on topic, have we ever figured out what causes the forum to slow every once in a while and throw PHP files at us to download? It was happening to me again just now.
