Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

The Bladed Sun is a talisman.  I think you must dispatch of the Wyvern.  And in order to do so you must use the Star on it.  God I hope I'm right.  THAT SCALP WILL BE MINE!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

My scalp is yours, Hyacinth, along with 5 bonus Internets and poptartpoptartpoptart for succeeding. But I think that people should be limited to one chance per day, don't you all agree? I think that everybody should have an equal opportunity to win a body part. Thus, the revised rules:

- Each question lasts one week before time is up and I reveal the answers. You may have a few extra hours depending on my schedule, so hurry to answer the question!
- You may collaborate, but the one who posts the answers will qualify unless I know you're a team otherwise. Be sure to decide who posts the answers beforehand!
- You may use the Internets to search for answers to the questions -- I won't consider it cheating -- but you'll have to look hard for the right answers. I won't hold it against you if you used Wikipedia or GameFAQs for answers. Sometimes I use them to confirm my answers, so it's only fair.
- If you can't answer the main question, at least try for the bonus Internets and Flaming Poptarts. You can never have too many of those!
- Only one answer per 24 hour period for each forumgoer competing for a body part. No fair posting a follow-up within less than 24 hours, or you can (and probably will) be disqualified for the current part.
- Finally, the focus of the questions is SNES and NES games. No new stuff here, folks! Your vintage gaming knowledge had better be up to the test if you wanna win parts!

These rules take place immediately after Hyacinth's recent victory. Sorry to be a little strict, but it's all in fairness, okay? I want to make sure you all have a shot at a body part. emot-keke

Now, for the curious, the answers are:

For the body part: The Talisman
For the Internets: The Wyvern
For the Poptarts: Defeat it with the Star, found in the Observatory Room.

When I have a new body part, I'll post my questions. Until then, keep your eyes peeled!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Today heralds a new body part and a new question!

Today's body part is: BioKraze's Meninges (Still intact after over 20 years!)
Today's question is: In Final Fantasy 6, is the Ribbon truly part of breaking the Cursed Shield's curse? (Bonus points if you know where the Cursed Shield is found by city and world, and 3 Flaming Poptarts if you know which kinds of battles don't count toward the 256 battle cursebreaker!)

Get to guessing! You never know what will come up next!

No, the ribbon has nothing to do with the cursed shield, which you pick up in Narshe in the World of Ruin!

Oh man, I can almost taste those meninges!emot-dance

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Congratulations on winning your first part from me, Stormcrow! You also win 10 bonus Internets for answering the second question! But nobody gets any Poptarts. That's the way the Poptart crumbles!

For the curious, the answers are:

For the body part: No, it only keeps the character alive in battle
For the Internets: Narshe, in the World of Ruin
For the Poptarts: Battles on the Veldt do not count toward the 256 battles to break the curse

I'll have to think of harder questions. You people are starting to show your knowledge...
I'm running out of parts, too. It's close to time for the Final Question!

Here's a hint: Reivers constantly spawn in this second Hub level! If you know what I'm talking about, you stand a chance at the Ultimate Prize!

Keep your eyes peeled for the next question!

Pineal gland? Think grander, my dear friend, think grander. For now, here's a good question for you oldtimers!

Today's body part is: BioKraze's Patellas (Shatter resistant and well cared for!)
Today's question is: In Metroid, which password is the only one hardcoded into the ROM data? (Bonus points if you know what it does, and 3 Flaming Poptarts if you can give me the full code like so: XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX!)

Get to guessing! You never know what will be next!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

The password is ""NARPASSWORD"  It basically does three things.

1) Samus becomes invincible, and has infinite missiles.
2) Samus has both the Wave Beam and the Ice Beam equipped, which results in a beam that behaves just like the Ice Beam, but the projectile appears to be a blue Wave Beam projectile.
3) Destroying metroids has a tendency to freeze the game.

I'm not sure what the full thing is.

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Hmmm...close enough for government work, Hyacinth. You win my patellas and 10 bonus Internets for knowing the basics. I was looking for something a little more detailed, but hey, nobody's perfect.

For the curious, the answers are:

For the body part: The "Narpas Sword/NAR Password" code
For the Internets: Samus gains all powerups (except Wave Beam), invincibility and infinite missiles
For the Poptarts: The code is NARPAS-SWORD0-000000-000000

I see that my questions are either becoming easier and easier...or you folks are getting smarter and smarter. It is only a matter of time before the Final Question, and with it the Ultimate Prize! Keep your eyes peeled for the next question!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Wow, it's almost time for the holidays here in the US of A and I haven't posted my question yet? How shocking! Well, time to remedy that situation...!

Today's body part is: BioKraze's Achilles Tendons (Proof against back attacks!)
Today's question is: On their way to Narshe, Kefka says, "I don't care what you do there..." What's the rest of his quote? (Bonus points if you know the "special power" of the subject, and 3 Flaming Poptarts if you know the Japanese name of the subject!)

Get to guessing! You never know what will be next!

Don't know for sure, but it must be along the lines of "just get that girl!"  Terra's special power is Morph, and her Japanese name is Tina.

Sorry, that's the wrong answer for this question. You are perceptive in matching Terra's English and Japanese names. Did you Wiki them or did you play the Sky Render version of FF6?

No worries, your next chance comes in the next 24 hours! Anybody else wanna try?

Neither emot-smile  But back in FF6's heyday, I knew everything about that game, and some of it has stuck.  (Not the quote, obviously.)  Now I wonder if I mucked it up completely.

But I think its original name was Valigarmanda? I remember it being called that SOMEWHERE.
And it uses Tri-Dazer.

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

What intelligent gamers we have on IRG! satyreyes wins my Achilles Tendons, but Red Angel lays claim to 20 Internets and poptartpoptartpoptart . Good job, both of you!

For the curious, the answers are:

For the body part: Kefka finishes with "...Just get me that Esper!!"
For the Internets: Tri-Dazer, a powerful Delta attack wielded by Tritoch
For the Poptarts: Valigarmanda is Tritoch's Japanese name

The Final Question is coming up in the next nine parts! Be prepared and know your old DOS games!

Keep your eyes peeled for the next question!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Whew! It's been weeks and now I've got a real doozy for you guys! Here goes nothing, I guess...

Today's body part is: BioKraze's Tonsils (Version 1.0, too!)
Today's question is: In Final Fantasy 6, can you name at least half of the 8 Legendary Dragons from the World of Ruin? (Bonus points if you know which item you receive from defeating all eight Dragons, and 3 Flaming Poptarts if you know who the secret 9th Dragon is!)

Get to guessing! You never know what will be next!

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Dirt Dragon and... others. I'm too tired right now... (Dirt Dragon's in the opera house, though, yay! And I think the name was shortened to Drt?)

Anyway, the item is the Esper Crusader.

Do you consider Brachosaur(sp?) the ninth dragon? One of the fellows in the cave on the Veldt refers to it as a dragon.

Hmmm.  I remember DrtDrgn, for sure; his name cracked me up.  And I think Doom Gaze turned out to be one of the Legendary Dragons, didn't he?  Or do you get a totally separate Esper by defeating him?  But... no, the rest are gone.  The World of Ruin didn't captivate me like the World of Balance.  I don't even remember where they were.  emot-frown

Re: The Great Body Parting (Videogame Trivia)

Well alright, I'll try... I can't remember abbreviations though.

There's the one in the mountains behind Mobliz: Air Dragon, I think
One in the Tower of Fanatics: Pearl Dragon
In Narshe, the area where the three teams fight Kefka to defend Tritoch: Ice Dragon
Two in Kefka's Tower: Gold Dragon and Death Dragon
One in the underground castle, where Odin is turned into Raiden by the queen's tears: Water Dragon or something
I believe the Flame/Fire Dragon is in the Phoenix Cave
And of course, Dirt Dragon in the Opera House

(Doom Gaze doesn't count as a dragon, but is mentioned as having been released at the same time as them and Phunbaba. He's the most annoying enemy ever and you get Bahamut when you finally manage to kill him.)

Getting warmer, Ragnarok! But some of the names are wrong. Check your sources and try again. You got all the Dragons listed -- except for "Air Dragon" -- and you're only one away from the prize!

My sources are my memories, I don't know how to check them better! emot-frown

Air Dragon.. I think that because it used air attacks. But it could have been Wind or Gale or something else. It used the same sprite as Wyverns, I think? It was green! It comes out of a treasure chest.

And the only Dragon that shows up on the veldt is the Pearl one (or was it white? They weren't mostly colour names, were they?)
