This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Have you ever thought characters in UTENA with Carl jung's psychology?

hello~ posting for the first.
Have you ever thought main characters in UTENA with Carl jung's psychology?
the characters are utena,akio,dios,ANSI,mikage....

there are matches i think
utena=ego,akio=collective unconsciousness,dios=self, ANSI=unconsciousness
mikake=shadow

utena do all and try all as she want,and on the contrary akio keeps his owns.
on the contrary other sides there is mikake.he dose work as anti-utena or anti-idea.
case of ANSI,she's think and action is hard to predict it's perhaps hidden mind
that everyone don't konw.

so... these means 5 characters means an man who lives in life?
how about tour opinion?

and last qestion...if following what i said, where is Super-ego?

Not really, since I don't know much about Carl Jung's psychology.

Second observation, this forum has too many graduate students.  XD

If you are talking about ego and super-ego, those are Freudian concepts (the whole thing is: Id, ego, and super-ego).
On the other hand, what you said is true, the show is indeed filled with Jungian archetypal figures: prince, princess, witch, God, trickster, hero, etc.
Despite what the appearance of these characters, their behaviors and interaction with each others reveal they are more than mere archetypal images.
