Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

I really can't classify these music videos, aside from 'pretty' and 'must steal clothes contained within'. I have a huge soft spot for anything that looks gothic or otherworldly, or even just plain weird, and these are some of the better videos I've seen that satisfied my deep-down ache for PRETTY COLORS.

So if you've got favorites, post 'em up, and tell us why they're great! I've got a craving cool

Within Temptation - Memories

I love the atmosphere in this video. It's just so terribly nostalgic and sad, but at the same time it makes my inner goth crow with glee.

Within Temptation - Angels

All right, all right, this isn't the greatest video around. Of course, the song kicks a buttload, and the whole angels vs demon confrontation at the end is, while cheesy, still kinda cool. cool

Within Temptation - Stand My Ground

It's like the beginning to a fantasy novel emot-aaa

Utada Hikaru - Passion

I WILL KILL HER AND TAKE HER DRESS. Also, I want choruses of dancers with socks on their heads to follow me around while rose petals rain down wherever I go. It'd be awesome. cool Also, this is from Kingdom Hearts 2.

Gackt - Redemption

...I'm not sure whether I want to have sex with him or knock him out, steal his clothes, and scalp him so I can wear his hair like a wig. Either way, what fun! Also, this is from some Final Fantasy thing and he's dressed as some Final Fantasy dude who's based on him. So yeah. Gackt is hot.

Malice Mizer - Beast of Blood

If there's one thing this video has right, it's that children are very fucking frightening and may possibly be able to enlarge their eyes to the size of dinner plates when angry. Post-Gackt Malice Mizer, and Klaha is wearing a coat I would kill for. Also that dude with the frohawk needs to give me his clothes.

Malice Mizer - Garnet

Okay, yeah, I don't really like this song, although I don't dislike it. The reason this is included is because they beat you over the head with gothic and christian imagery in it and it's so over the top that it actually wraps around back to cool. emot-biggrin

Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober

I know, it's overplayed. If you haven't seen the video, though... she has a pretty dress, some pretty wolves, some pretty transvestite dancers, and a pretty man.

Delerium - Aria

Pretty colors, pretty buildings, and pretty visual effects! Also a bunch of pretty girls.

Marilyn Manson - Dope Show

I know, he's not a goth. But I'm a total sucker for a guy that wears makeup and prances around in high heels sneering at people. Plus this is totally music to strip to.

Malice Mizer - Bel Air

OH GOD CHEST CLUTCHING emot-aaa REACHING TO THE HEAVENS emot-aaa INTENSE EXPRESSION ACTION emot-aaa

And I'm entranced by the dapper mustachioed man in the plaid suit. Seriously, I want a person like that to follow me around mechanically playing instruments and never changing his expression. Along with my sock-headed dancers. When I'm Queen, the world will be a much more interesting place.

Any of you guys got favorite PRETTY PRETTY music videos?

Re: Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

Yeah, I got a couple.  They're personal favorites, and they all seem to have an old-timey feel to them.

Smashing Pumpkins, "Tonight, Tonight"

Like a silent movie (as I recall, it's based on a silent movie, the name of which escapes me), but in color and without title cards.  Check the makeup.

Nine Inch Nails, "The Perfect Drug"

Mmm, yes.  Of course I'd sneak in a Nine Inch Nails video.  Very blue-tinged.  This is like equal parts The Fall of the House of Usher and Edward Gorey with a little "green fairy" thrown in for fun.

The sword cracks me up every time.  Oh, Trent...

Silverchair, "Across the Night"

Like "Tonight, Tonight," this is silent movie-esque, but this one actually does have title cards and is in black and white.  (Sorry, no pretty colors, but still fairly fantastical.)  I used to have a raging fangirl crush on Daniel Johns, until I forced myself to give up blond pretty boys.  Well, flesh-and-blood blond pretty boys, anyway.

Tonight, Tonight, oh god! emot-gonk My preteen years are flashing before my eyes. emot-gonk But I really do love that video to pieces. In a different way than the orgy of gothy fantasy videos Yasha posted. Those are like...shopping.

Re: Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

"Memories" by WT is very stylish, I love all the detail in the video. And Sharon's dress. etc-love
I love her dresses a lot, you should also see Mother Earth and Running Up That Hill. But  my favourite video by WT would be The Dance 'cause it's much darker, plus the song rocks.
(I'm a fan if you didn't notice.)

While we're on the subject, here's "Nemo" by Nightwish. I like the video and the song but I don't like Nightwish very much. :/

Have some symphonic metal: "The Phantom Agony" by Epica is very nice. And here's the full version of that song, but it has a different video clip.

Also, this is not gothic, but it's cello rock and that's enough for it to be fun to watch. Rasputina - "The Olde Headboard"

That's it, I'm gonna make a music thread now!

FUCK YEAH. So I finally got time to watch these videos, and while I almost included this one in the first post, I thought I'd save it for later. And here I didn't have to! Much love for the Victorian outfits in this video; I'm a huge fan of the Victorian era. school-eng101 Fun fact: Yasha plans on singing this the next time she goes to karaoke, as it barely fits in the low end of her range and is a beautiful song.

You're right, this video is very blue. Actually, it reminds me of the art of Jacek Yerka, specifically the picture Paradise (yes, I know, that's not his site, but for some reason his site is missing a few pictures). Actually, it reminds me of a lot of his art. Check those pictures out, they're great stuff.

AUGH DANIEL JOHNS

I had such a crush on him back when frogstomp was popular emot-redface

I love long hair on guys when it's well kept, and he just has such a pretty face! And the video is very sweet, I love the use of those title cards. Again, very Victorian. Are you a fan of the era? If so, check out Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. It's an old game, but there is NOTHING more satisfying than finding all the parts for a Tesla Gun, or suddenly realizing that your Elven character is deadly with a flamethrower. Also you can hire whores! Here's the trailer, for those who might be interested. The game is dated, but the soundtrack is absolutely captivating.

*ahem* Sorry 'bout that.  I get all squishy about stuff set in the Victorian era.

I certainly did! I'm a fan too, actually. It was kinda weird, on an online radio station I frequent you can pick a song to put on the playlist, and I was just randomly browsing and happened to pick 'Memories'. I was so blown away that I frantically messaged Gio and made her listen to it, even though she was busy doing something else. I managed to get hold of their discography, but I've stuck to listening to The Silent Force EP, cause it's just fantastic and I haven't gotten tired of it yet.

And yes, I need her warbrobe. Oh yes.

Maarika wrote:

You know... me either. They have all the elements I should like in music, but when it comes down to it, I just don't like it at all. I have gotten more goosebumps listening to Weird Al. The video is all right, and so is the song, but I just can't get into it.

Those are both pretty sweet, but I think I liked the Rasputina video better. Although who can resist Epica's busty redheaded wench in medieval clothes? I dunno, but Rasputina's off-kilter harmonies impressed me, I might have to find some more of their music.

And for my own contribution, which is pitiful this week, here's another Gackt video.

Gackt - Mizerable

HOLY CARP THIS MAN NEEDS DANCING LESSONS. Aside from that... damn he has some pretty clothes, and there's orchestra and chest clutching and falling to the knees and capes and wow do I ever need a vaguely napoleonic jacket with a big wide collar like he has. Damn!

Whoa. o.o Gackt.

REDEMPPPSHUUUUUUUUUN!!!! REDEMPPPSHUUUUUUUUUUUN!!

Redemption wasn't bad....much better, at least, than the stuff he had been doing lately. I was rather disappointed with Diabolos as a whole.

Here's something from L'Arc~en~Ciel for you guys...they haven't done anything new in a while, but New World is one of my favorite recent videos from this group. I don't know if this qualifies as "pretty" but the visuals, imo, are really stunning. emot-keke

Madonna, Frozen

Pretty.

Madonna, Rain

Also pretty, although not quite in the fantasy/Goth theme.

You want the coat? You can get it, if you got the cash. Abbyshot does some of the best coats in existance. Their cost equals their quality, though.

As for the music videos, let me get back on that. I'll look for them, later.

Re: Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

My favorite pretty-pretty videos:

Koda Kumi - Ningyo Hime
You would NEVER guess that this is a Koda Kumi song. It's just not very...HER. I admit that I prefer her pop music more (which is a bit of a shock--I usually am more into this kind of thing) but this is a very visually interesting video. Not a huge fan of the flabby goth medicine guy, but I love the stork-man in the feathered mask. etc-love

Kana - Kuuchuu Buranko
This video makes me cry. emot-frown It's not my favorite Kana song, but the video really touches me somehow. Something about how she keeps trying to fly & never manages it. It's also got really nice colors and imagery--Kana videos always do. Plus, she's ADORABLE. Her and her pandas.

Army of Lovers - Crucified
I think this is pretty funny. It's also very beautiful. Mostly just hilarious, though. I LOVE them. etc-love So clever, so campy, so sexy. Amazing all around.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Because of You
The part where they are spinning with the guitars makes me want to die laughing, (well, all of the parts with the guitars, really. It is overdramatic and goofy. Not that the whole video isn't overdramatic. Still.) but the rest of this video is really beautiful...esp the parts with the milk. (Or white paint...whatever.) It makes me a lil weepy sometimes, too...I totally buy into this kind of thing, always.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Ladies Night
I can't say I'm into the fascist thing (that heavy, blatant type of symbolism always grates on my nerves a tad...especially when it's about everyone being the same because of facist societies. Whatever.) but the rest is really gorgeous. I love the woman in the butterfly room. Sooo pretty. I never really got what was so great about Ayumi (maybe it's because my heart lies with Namie Amuro, but I digress) but this is a pretty good song.

GO!GO!7188 - Ukifune
This is probably one of my top favorite songs ever. The video would be better if they didn't repeat the same animation fifty million times, but it's still pretty great. (Especially, there are some really interesting images in it...especially near the end, with the flowers in the hot dog bun. Jeez, what a cool drawing. And the field of white flowers...and the jacket. I love it.)

GAM - Melodies
This video is just sexy. Hot lesbian action, basically. The song is sort of cute too, if you're into that kind of thing...but the main reason I like it is because this is one of the best instances of fantastic marketing--ever. (The song on the CD is around 4:28, but when the video aired on TV it faded out at 3:55. And the earlier commercials had showed a kiss very nearly happening...and it wasn't in the faded-out video. So everyone bought the special edition DVD to see if the kiss would be there. I love plots like that, so clever.)

V-U-Den - Kachoii Ze! Japan
More lesbians. The video VERY pretty, but the song is sort of goofy sometimes...and the choreography is...uh... emot-rolleyes ...still, I love it. There is some absolutely beautifully shot girlxgirl action, esp with the legs. The only part that ruins it for me are those weird winks Rika gives the camera near the end...ugh.

And of course:

Bjork - Pagan Poetry
There are no words. etc-love

Re: Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops
Gawh, I've always loved this song and the music video has a deep but colorful vibe to it. Here's one that's not subtitled for those interested.

Plummet - Damaged
Just such a symbolic video and a great song. There's acutally two versions of this music video, the other is more straightforward and lovey-dovey (found here).

Tori Amos - Sleeps With Butterflies
Okay, so I don't like the song too much but, the music video is simply gorgeous!

Sheryl Crow - Good Is Good
Another where I'm not too fond of the song but, I love the effects in this video.

Evanescence - Everybody's Fool
Probably one of my favorite videos just because of the concept. It has it's ugliness but somehow contains a beauty to it, even if it's a vain one.

Re: Fantasy... er... Gothy... er... Pretty Music Videos!

I love the song Tonight, Tonight, but the music vid not so much. Honestly, whenever I see them whacking the aliens with the umbrellas the first time, all I can think is that wouldn't you probably start hopping up and down if suddenly some strange creatures rained down out of the sky onto you?

Actually, I'm not big on music videos period. I think a lot of them are extremely tedious. I love the My Chemical Romance music vids, though emot-keke;

And if you don't watch the Beat Crusader's Tonight Tonight Tonight PV, you are gonna miss a major crackfest http://youtube.com/watch?v=08jbA82_9v4. It's hysterical.

There's just something about Gwen Stefani that makes her nearly impossible not to like. If I had an extra $500 I'd buy one of her handbags. (And me, I've never owned a purse in my entire life.)
