D-ko met Akio before Utena? emot-confused

Re: Let's Play! Utena for the Sega Saturn!

That's odd... the calendar has a witch on it, and there's a day circled which appears to be just three days from today.  What could be so important about the 25th?

I'd have to agree with satyr, even as the wall votes pile up. Look at the witch and princess calendar. (In fact, is that an apple being passed?)

Either way, I'm loving following along; thanks so much for this Dallbun. poptart

Ah, yes. Maybe it was obvious, but I should have made it clear that that number in the upper-right corner during the scene-setting screenshots is what day it is. As people have commented, that might make the calendar take on more importance, since it's the 22nd and the 25th is circled.

Just to be clear, the wall in question that something's drawn on can't be seen from the screenshot, and it isn't the wall we were looking at before with the name... things.

Also, "name tags" was probably a terrible translation for what those things were, because I don't think they're worn with the purpose of name tags... but suffice it to say that they have each club member's name written on them.

The regularly-scheduled voices in D-ko's head may now resume.

Re: Let's Play! Utena for the Sega Saturn!

One of the pleasures of playing this game is that it's fully voice-acted. I can't convey that through posts, so please, do yourself a favor and imagine your favorite voice actors delivering the lines as you read them. As for D-ko's voice... well, she's an earnest female protagonist. You know the type.

Anyway, we look at the wall. Terrible haphazard translations a go-go!

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_016.jpg?m=1380881920
D-ko:
What the heck is this?
If it's graffiti, it's pretty audacious.
Hey, isn't this that guy from this morning?
I think he was called Saionji...
And this figure looks like Utena.
What does it mean?
Anyway, nobody's here.
I guess there must not be any practice today.

CHOICE:
Look at the calendar

Wait, what? I guess we are capable of looking at two things. And I guess this wasn't actually a choice at all. Nice one, game.

Also, seriously, D-ko, stop it with the "nobody's here, there must not be a practice" thing. This is like the third time you've said that.

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_019.jpg?m=1380881920
D-ko:
Man, what a tasteless calendar.
The 25th is circled... I wonder if there's a match then.
Wait, these dates...
Isn't this calendar from fifteen years ago? Weird.
Anyway, nobody's here.
I guess there must not be any practice today.

CHOICE:
Look at the lockers

AAAAAAAARRGH

D-ko:
Hey, there's just one locker that's open.
I wonder whose?
"Sanjouin"...
Oh, it's the captain's?
Must have forgotten to lock it.
Let's see...

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_020.jpg?m=1380881920

Chigusa:
Hands off!

D-ko:
Who's this?
Are they from the Fencing Club?
Is it a man? Or a woman?
Somehow, they're so gorgeous,
I have the urge to come closer...
But it doesn't bother me.
This must be the sort of person people mean
when they say someone's ("aristocratic.") (noble?)
I guess people like this, like out of a story or a play,
also exist in real life...

Chigusa:
Who is it?

D-ko:
Umm, my name's Kageno D-ko,
I just transferred here today...

Chigusa:
What did you say?
...please, repeat your name.

D-ko:
Don't make that scary face...
...Kageno D-ko.

Chigusa:
Your father's name is Masaomi. (雅臣, elegant-retainer)
Your mother's name is Koto? (湖都, lake-city)

D-ko:
How do you...?

Chigusa:
............ (sound of almost starting to say something but then stopping)

D-ko:
She turned away.
But isn't she still making that scary face?

Chigusa:
Only club members are allowed to enter here.
There are personal things kept here.
(You wouldn't want to be called a thief.)

D-ko:
A, right! I'm sorry.

(outside)
D-ko:
Wow, I was surprised.
I guess I shouldn't just freely entered after all.
Even so, that person was really beautiful...
it seemed unreal.
And those three from this morning...
and the Chairman...
Ohtori Academy really is different.

D-ko is really terrible at determining people's sex, isn't she?

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Setting%20Shots/Game_Background_005.jpg?m=1380882940

D-ko:
Oh, it's Utena!
Of course... when she saw my bags,
she must have known I'd be living here.

Utena:
Welcome to the East Dorm!

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_021.jpg?m=1380881921

Anthy:
Your bags have arrived.

D-ko:
Thanks!

Utena:
Your room is 22, on the second floor.
It's next door to ours.

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Setting%20Shots/Game_Background_006.jpg?m=1380882940
Anthy:
Please, make yourself at home.

D-ko:
Did you clean it for me!?

Utena:
All I did was bring up your bags.
Anthy's the one who cleaned it.

D-ko:
Thank you, Anthy!

Anthy:
You're welcome. (Translator's note: Anthy's trademark "doumo doumo")

She also seems to have removed our bed. Discuss.

Chu-Chu:
Chuu.

D-ko:
Huh?

Chu-Chu:
Chuu chuu.

D-ko:
What's that voice?
Nobody else is here...
is it just my imagination?
I must be pretty tired after all.

Chu-Chu:
Chuuu.

D-ko:
N, no, I definitely heard it...
Utena, something's in this room!

Utena:
Oh, right!
Chu-Chu is visiting, too.
Sorry, sorry!
I'll introduce you. This is East Dorm's third resident, our friend...
Chu-Chu.

http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/338/00000054.png

Chu-Chu:
Chuu.

D-ko:
So wait, the third resident is...

Utena:
Yeah. It's him.

Chu-Chu:
Chu chuu.

D-ko:
It's a monkey... I think.
Well, then...

Hello, I'm Kageno D-ko.
We'll be living together from today on.
It's nice to meet you, Chu-Chu.

Chu-Chu:
Chu chu.

Utena:
Nice, Chu-Chu, you have a new friend!

Chu-Chu:
Chuu.

Utena:
Hey, D-ko, do you wanna come to our room and have some tea?
Himemiya's preparing it for us.

Anthy:
It will be done soon, Utena-sama.

D-ko:
Is it okay? In that case, I guess I'll impose on you...

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_022.jpg?m=1380881921

(Chu-Chu is eating crackers.)

Anthy:
By the way, this arrived from the Student Council.

D-ko:
Huh, what's this? A message card? Some kind of invitation?
No way it's a love letter, right?

Anthy:
And this one is for you, Utena-sama.

D-ko:
What about you, Anthy?

Anthy:
I have one, too.

Utena:
Let's see, what is this...
A masquerade!?

Anthy:
Yes. It says it's starting at 6 o'clock tonight,
and is sponsored by the Student Council.
It says transfer students should also definitely come.

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_023.jpg?m=1380881921

D-ko:
A masquerade!
At my old school, we just had folk dances...
The more I learn, the more it feels like this is a totally different world.

Utena:
Well, that's what it says.
What should we do?

D-ko:
Hmmm... but I don't have any dress to wear to a ball...

Anthy:
That's all right. I can lend you one.

D-ko:
Eeh? Is it really okay?

Anthy:
Of course.

(Chu-Chu is stuffed and sleeping.)

Utena:
Alright! If that's decided,
let's get going right away.

D-ko:
Yeah!

Utena is excited, because her last party at Ohtori went so well!

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1398/00000058.png
D-ko:
Wow... my first masquerade!
So this is a party organized by the Student Council?
Wow, that chandelier is so high up!
The food on the tables is all stuff I've never seen before, too...

http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/4358/00000064.png

Miki:
Welcome, Himemiya-san, Tenjou-sempai.

D-ko:
My heart just thumped... what a cute boy!
(Those pretty eyes... they're like crystals.)

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_024.jpg?m=1380881921

Utena:
Hey, Mickey.

http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_025.jpg?m=1380881921

Anthy:
Thank you for the invitation.

Miki:
Wow, Himemiya-san, your dress is so pretty!
You look like a blooming flower.

Anthy:
Thank you. ("doumo doumo")

Utena:
(It's thanks to Himemiya that our masks are staying up, too.)
(It must be the power of love!)

Miki:
Please, don't joke! (awkward giggle)
(You don't normally come to these balls, Tenjou-sampai.)

Utena:
Yeah, I don't like flitting around at this sort of thing.
Hey, why aren't you wearing a mask, Micky?

Miki:
Because we Student Council members are the hosts.
It would be a problem if the guests couldn't mingle with us.
Now, this person is...?

Utena:
Oh, I'll introduce you.
She just transferred here today. Her name is...

D-ko:
Um, Kageno D-ko!

Miki:
Nice to meet you.
I'm Kaoru Miki. I'm a first-year in the Middle School.

Utena:
Micky here is a fencer and pianist at the national level,
and he's taking university-level courses, too. He's totally brilliant.

D-ko:
Wow...
And he's younger than me. I wonder what I should talk about?

CHOICE:
Praise his beautiful eyes
Make a light joke

Option three: kiss Anthy, watch Miki's head explode.

Oddly, our character doesn't seem to have had any trouble determining Miki's sex, and he's way more androgynous than either Utena or Chigusa.  Something is off here.  What is it...?

Oh, right.

I can't read Japanese very well, but I'm fluent in reading symbolism. emot-redface
http://ohtori.nu/gallery/var/resizes/Game/Screenshots/Game_Cap_016.jpg?m=1380881920
Each student council member represents one of her fingers, but there's no arrow pointing to her thumb, nor a line connected to Utena. This could mean that while the student council is in the palm of her hand, Utena is not. Or maybe she is counting off the people she's defeated, and only Utena is left. The gap in between Utena and the other student council members is either there because of the distance between the thumb and other fingers, or there is a gap to show the missing duelists. It seems to be organized by the skill of the duelist. Her sword is pointing at the sword of Dios, so she's likely fighting for the power of Dios.

Anthy wears the same headpiece as the witch on the calender, so she's the witch. The girl seems to be wearing a bow and the princes attire, but judging by the background color, it's probably D-ko. I can't tell if the girl is offering the apple to the which, or if the girl is accepting the apple. But we can be certain that the apple is bad. Or maybe it represents a rose crest or the power to revolutionize the world?

Just because it's always fun to relate numbers with episode numbers:
4- The Sunlit Garden- Prelude
11- Graceful and Ruthless; The One Who Picks the Flower
18- Mitsuru's Growing Pains
25- Our Eternal Apocalypse
(32)- Romance of the Dancing Girls

Everything I just said is pointless, since we already know Anthy's a witch, and we don't know if the chart with Chigusa is necessarily a bad thing or not.
