MIKI: Senpai!  I actually know what this is!
TOUGA: It looks like a rose garden.
MIKI: It's a "rows garden."  The rows all have letters, with one or more clues attached to them.  You write in the answers in order for each row.
TOUGA: I suppose the answers to the white, pink, and red clues go in some rose of those colors.
MIKI: That's right!  Those are all six letters, and they can start anywhere in the rose, and go clockwise or counterclockwise.
TOUGA: Someone must have had too much time on their hands.
MIKI: Senpai, don't you do the sudoku every morning?
TOUGA: That's different.

[The rows garden picture is printable!]
[Extra bonus note: If anything about the instructions is unclear, let me know -- for once, figuring out how the puzzle works is not supposed to be part of the puzzle!]

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

Looks like I'll have to take initiative with this one. I don't like taking initiative. It's not my style. It's much better to lead from behind. Far behind. Safer too.

A few answers that I've already gotten:

A: Either Takatsuki or Tsuwabuki (narrowed down to these two thanks to one of the pink answers
B: Tegan; UNKNOWN; UNKNOWN; Man; Gnats (?)
C: Pianos; Titian; UNKNOWN (I thought it was "supports" but that's not enough letters)
E: Rings; (the rest is unknown)
F: Simoleon; Yellow; Spirits
G: Sesame; Exit; UNKNOWN; Seto?
H: Wagner; UNKNOWN; Straits
J: Unsure... I keep thinking of the Dead Parrot Sketch; UNKNOWN... Google says it should be "I felt" but the clue doesn't specify the number of words; UNKNOWN (something rings a bell but I can't quite place it); Nanking
K: All a mystery
L: All of the names of the right number of letters are Arisugawa, Shinohana, Takatsuki, and Tsuwabuki

White
Awards
Awning (located in the first rose between H and I)
Golems (first white between E and F)
Gundam
Gustav
UNKNOWN
UNKNOWN
Nested
Piaget
Script
Spiral
UNKNOWN (I suspect I'll know if I look at a few screens of a certain Black Rose episode)
Desert
UNKNOWN

Pink
Albino?
Altair
Haggle?
UNKNOWN
Erring (first pink rose between D and E)
Ending?
Growth
UNKNOWN
Incest?
Nuking (last pink rose between A and B)
Rename (first pink between G and H)
Absent
UNKNOWN
Year of

Red
UNKNOWN
As it is?
UNKNOWN (or more to the point I don't remember)
Misses (first red between F and G)
Onions (first red between C and D)
Onyxes (second red between F and G)
UNKNOWN
UNKNOWN
Bundis?
Wounds (third red between F and G)

I'm glad I put all that down. It actually helped me with a couple of the clues. And I'm hoping this might actually encourage others to contribute. Because I'm feeling kind of alone right now, here.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

In the spirit of helpfulness, here is the garden as Flah has left it so far!  Black letters are Row entries; blue letters indicate where extra letters have been placed using the Roses.  All gridded letters are correct.

http://ohtori.nu/Riddler/Rows_Garden_in_progress_1.png

I also have one correction: "___ a funeral in my brain" should indeed be marked as two words.

If you're playing, give the clues a read-through.  Crossword clues are weird in that a clue that's hard for one person may be easy for another.  Contribute what you can!

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

If anyone's still working this one, here are a couple little hints that might help.

- The Rose clues are in alphabetical order by answer.
- As an alternative to "uncontrollable descent," the first clue in Row K could be "member of the Race Car Patrol."

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

Thank you, that revised clue clears things up a little bit. I've figured out a few others. A little bit later, I'll see if I can put up my own answer sheet.

Why is it called a tailspin anyway? The rest of it is spinning too, after all.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

I think it might be called a tailspin since all the weight is placed on the nose when a plane falls, making that somewhat more of a stable point compared to the tail, which ends up spinning more rapidly.
Anyways, I'll list as many answers I can figure out:

H:(Solved); "ten seven" (from adding 4'1 and 6'7 together) ;(solved)
J: Larch
K:Tailspin; "Recessive traits emerging again" might be express but I'm not sure;

PINK:
Thirteen: Tanaka

RED:
Third(The novel Flah forgot): Demian
Nine: Bindis

I'll wait for Flah's sheet, and go on from there.

Thank you so much for jumping in, zeedikay! emot-biggrin  I will confirm larch, Tanaka, and Demian (as well as tailspin).  Any other takers?  "___ no Hanayome" should not be too bad for a bunch of SKU fans. emot-smile

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

I've made a few corrections to some of my answers. My mousemanship is terrible, so I just typed in the letters.

http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b482/Nonyflah/Rows_Garden_zpscdfbf079.png

A few of the corrections:

Touga's main quality in Black Rose was not "Absent" but "Silent".

If all of the red, white, and pink answers are alphabetical on the list, then a few of mine are way off the mark. The tumbleweed terrain can not possibly be "Desert". Likewise, quality time with Akio can't be "Incest" since C comes before F and "Someday We'll Shine Together" can't be "Ending" since N comes before R.

And, obviously, negotiating a trade, in this case, is not "Haggle" but "Barter.

EDIT: And, yes, I'm aware that I misspelled "Nanking"

The first of the Reds might be Ankara or Angora if the historical name fits.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

Yeah, my guess is Ankara since that fits with the red in the (misspelled) Nanking.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

Nice call on Ankara.  I've taken the liberty of adding zeedikay's earlier correct guess of "larch," and Flah's even earlier guess of "I felt" that comes right after larch:

"Sullivan's student" might be Keller, as in Helen Keller, with Sullivan being Anne Sullivan.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

K2 is going to be Atavisms.

And, if Saionji's socks are Tanaka (which I have no reason to believe otherwise), then a good place to put it would be the first pink rose, thereby making A into Takatsuki.

White 13 might be Valley (as in the Death variety). Still not sure on that one. Feels like I'm grasping at straws with it.

Ooh! Ooh! The last one in K is going to be Dr Tam! Which means that Pink 9 is going to be Mating... Well, that makes that one a touch less uncomfortable than what I originally thought.

Pink 6 is Finale, located within the second pink rose between J and K.

One more push!  I've taken the liberty of fixing "atavisms" to read "atavists" and updating the list of Rose clues.

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

Gonna throw a few wild guesses out there, based on the clues we have so far.

Red 8 is going to be TECHIE, belonging in the first red rose between I and J. Red 3 can only belong in the second Red between C and D.

SILENT belongs in the second-to-last pink on the bottom which is a helpful clue to that particular answer. Assuming that AS IT IS belongs in the preceding red rose, that means that there's an ISLE of Dogs, in addition to the better known ISLE of Man.

I might be missing something obvious but I still think that White 4 should be Gundam which would belong in the third white rose on the top row.

After doing some research, I've learned that the tumbleweeds in White 13 not only exist in the desert but also the STEPPE. There are two places where this and White 8 can possibly live, the second and third white roses between H and I.

That means that I can safely get at least the second half of the final clue which is NINETEEN DISAPPEARANCES (and also indicating that INCEST still shows its ugly face somewhere in the puzzle, most likely White 6).

Unfortunately, a lot of important answers are still missing. Though I'd still call this progress.

I'll post a revised answer sheet tomorrow morning, unless Satyreyes gets to it first.

EDIT: Just realized what the schoolyard game in B is: TAG

Re: [Revolutionary Puzzle] Spinning Roses

The last remaining clue in B has to be ADELE, making White 14 TITLED.

And I'm going to take a wild stab at White 12 and say STAINS.

Using some slight mental gymnastics, I've concluded that the second answer in E will be MINOR KEY and that ALBINO belongs in that pink rose. That also means that YEAR OF is in the next pink rose (going clockwise), leaving us with GROWTH in the last one. And I've now learned a new term, related to the last remaining answer in E, EATS CROW.

REGION BLAMED FOR ___GHT NINETEEN DISAPPEARANCE is what I have so far. I'm going to guess that the letters in the blank are FLI.

And so, the final answer is The Bermuda Triangle. A shame I still don't know what the remaining clues are, though.

A well-earned ding ding!!  THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE is the answer emot-biggrin  Hearty congratulations!  poptart

I don't mind spoiling those other clues now that the answer is known.  You already have all the Row clues but one, plus TITLED ("Named prince, for example") and STAINS ("Features of some of Saionji's socks?"), so the only ones left are:

Acts as the foundation for: UNDERPINS
Bothers in a gnawing way (2 wds.): EATS AT
Steal something small: PILFER
